Ryzen 5 5600x overclocking

On an x570 mobo about how high could you overclock a ryzen 5600x with it still being stable. I plan to do a dedicated loop to cool the cpu if that matters for more reasonable overclocks.

It depends on the motherboard, the cooling solution, and the silicone of the chip. Also, You need a board that supports precision boost clock override if you want to go past a certain point. I'm ballparking it here- I don't really know how far a 5600x can go- but with the right stuff, you could likely hit an all-core of, hmm maybe 4.8ghz, 4.85, 4.9 maybe? 

I am NOT a professional and a lot of the time what I'm saying is based on limited knowledge and experience. I'm going to be incorrect at times.

All core results: 4.4GHz the bad ones, 4.6GHz the average ones, 4.8GHz+ the good ones. It doesnt scale well with gaming performance however.

Wdym it doesn't scale well with gaming preformence? Do you mean overclocking will show insignificant preformence boosts in gaming?

Like I said I'll be doing a custom loop I will probally use the Asus tuf x570. As far as the silicon in the chip I can't really choose that.

I was just specifying further what I was going to use. I know you didn't say anything about choosing my silicon and I wasn't trying to make it seem like you did and were wrong.

Best way to overclock is tweaking pbo. I would first undervolt as far as possible with the curve optimizer. From there I would try raising the max pbo boost value to 200-250 ish.

 

Now if you want to get more advanced to that you can tweak the above and run a lower curve offset like -5 in your first and second best cores.

 

This allows your all core and single core speeds to perform much better.

 

My 5900x can see core boosts up to and sometimes slightly over 5.2.ghz on my best 4 cores ( 1st and 2nd on two ccxs) and the rest of my cores all break 5ghz from time to time. Now where things get interesting is my all core which will run at 4.8ghz. The problem I have is after about 5 minutes that drops down to high 4.6 - low 4.7ghz despite good temps. So it is more than likely a time threshold on pbo I haven't found yet.

 

Anyways my point is these overclock much differently than previous chips have.

Yep. As far as Ryzen is concerned, memory settings still matter more than core frequency especially since the cores don't overclock that much.

So I'd be better off getting an aio and ballistics max ram instead of spending the extra money for a custom cpu loop.

It isn't that they don't even overclock much. The problem is they are more reliant on undervolting and pbo. 

 

I mean when I can have 4/12 cores hit in the 5.2ghz range that is nuts with the IPC on these chips.

 

Honestly, PBO as it stands is great. It is very effective at using the capacity of a user's hardware. Means that with a single setting any user can see some gains. I mean sure you can tweak it to get a little more out of it, but that is only really noticeable in benchmarks anyways.

if real world performance is what matters, yes (maybe not Crucial ballistix, they arent the best). If you want to boast about CPU core frequency then go with a custom loop and large radiators.

Is there something wrong with ballistics ram? I was going to use them anyways just at lower capasities and slower speeds becuase there are white non rgb variants.

Nothing wrong, they're just not the fastest since it's always some variant of Micron Rev.E in them (above 3000MHz that is). Best is ofc Samsung B-die, but even on the cheap Hynix DJR and CJR are arguably better (since Ryzen cares about latency, not max memory frequency).

Maybe i Can help you with this issue, finally i setup a x570 system with 4x8 at 4ghz with ufclk at 2000mhz.

Using Msi x570 A Pro, 4 thermaltake c194400mhz and ryzen 5600x

I had three different 5600x's that all were able to do 4.85 all cores, at 1.3-1.4v. On a cheap b550 itx board.
