Is an AMD athlon 3000G 4 thread good enough for gaming?

Go to solution Solved by jaslion,

For new games? No. 4thread cpu's haven't been good enough for a couple of years. The absolute minimum you should go for is a i3 10100 or ryzen 3100

What is your budget?

hi i am a 5th grader who  knows about pc's and the parts for assembling a pc so i cant build a pc but i wanted to know that can the AMD Athlon 3000G 4 thread core good enough gaming and will it enough for an gaming / normal pc consisting of an NVIDIA geforce 1650 , 8GB ram and a cooler master power supply, so please tell me is it good or should i go with an i5 processor

ASUS SABERTOOTH X58, LGA 1366Motherboard + Xeon 6 core X5680 + 24GB DDR3-1600 4719543177075 | eBay

I'd recommend going used. X58 is pretty cheap right now for X5680 + X58 board + DDR3 RAM bundles like this one. You could go for a newer CPU like a 4770K or something, but that may be a bit pricy. Optiplex w/i7 would work well too

Which power supply are you using by the way? The X58 platform when overclocked (which you definitely should do imo, these chips overclock super well) definitely isn't a 3000G in terms of power consumption

Current System: Ryzen 7 3700X, Noctua NH L12 Ghost S1 Edition, 32GB DDR4 @ 3200MHz, MAG B550i Gaming Edge, 1TB WD SN550 NVME, SF750, RTX 3080 Founders Edition, Louqe Ghost S1

But at stock the x5680 is no longer capable in the newest games to keep 60fps stable. The i7 2600 can but just.

True. OC'd at 4 GHz it might be different, but at stock the i7 2600 will be much better

The price for a good enough cooler would basically put it over the budget of just a i7 2600 system which would basically perform the same then.

If you can stretch your budget a bit, here's one with a 4770, which should be a bit better

You may be able to find something like a used Ryzen 5 2400g or a 3400g, which is much more competent than a 3000g and should fit in your budget. This should also give you at least 720p resolution at 30+ fps in most games, although you may need to turn the detail settings down to low-medium. Titles like CSGO or World of Warships should run at 1080p at a decent frame rate.

You'll be hard pressed to find a 1650 within your budget, along with all of the other necessary components. Although not ideal for AAA gaming, these APU's will work in a pinch while you save for a dedicated GPU. Why not go for a RX 570 instead of a 1650?
