Trouble loading a gigantic 3D model into 3D modeling software

Vishera

So i have a huge 3D model with lots of polygons,

I am having trouble loading the model in different 3D modeling software,

Blender just out right fails to load the model, and Cinema 4D use all of the system RAM trying to load it which freezes my system.

I know that the file is good and have no problems loading it into Unigine.

Does anyone have a solution that doesn't include adding more RAM?

Magic. It's either more RAM or magic.

Well, the problem is that Cinema 4D is significantly less efficient in RAM usage than competing and similar products.

For example,I can load the model into SketchUp without any problems but that software lacks the tools i need.

Maybe someone knows how to make Blender load the model,or knows of a different software where it's possible.

How many RAMs do you have? How many many trillions of polys are you trying to load?

Spoiler

I have 16GB,and for what i do it's enough,but in this specific case i have a problem.

I have no clue, but i do know that there are too many polygons and that there are too many meshes as well.

I just need to load it into a 3D modeling software, merge the meshes and reduce the polygon count.

I also think that the number of meshes is a big contributor to the problem,as far as i remember the model has more than 3000 meshes...

Problem with big models, I do feel your pain. But sad to say that the point of the RAM is to take whole file size in when you load it. You might get some more leash if software allows setting cache size, or by checking if it uses pagefile too.

Only other way would be to chop model into smaller chunks for import. This is something I have had to do too. I have screenshot of software using 12Gb of RAM while importing stuff.

Thank you for your advice, I am currently trying to merge meshes and reduce polygon count on SketchUp,It's the only software in which i can load the model successfully.

SketchUp uses just 8GB of RAM after loading the model.

It's a success,i have managed to significantly lower the polygon count and merge meshes.

The model is now 300,000 polygons and 28 meshes.

Yeh, I also have 16GB, so was gonna do a test and see if I could get Blender to take in large things. But that poly count is pretty low... I managed to import a whole level and I forget how many character models from a Soul Reaver thing and it was a couple million polys and managed to load up fine. Wasn't the smoothest to navigate, but ~25 fps-esque frame rate. Also I had a Sculptris model up to over 20M at one point, but Sculptris handles high-poly models different I guess and it didn't even hardly hiccup while I swept over the model with the poly reduction tool thing.

I am still kinda curious how large the pre-fixed models were now. 😅

That's after i managed to import it into SketchUp,merge the meshes and lower the polygon count
