Is Origin hiding that it compresses the game downloads?

Hello!

So today I tested something I have been "theorising" about a bit. Mostly after I downloaded Titanfall on my desktop

 

Titanfall is supposedly a 50GB download, but I have felt it has finished way to fast for that.

So today I tested downloading it on my laptop

I have a 25/25 connection here which will give me 3MB/s~ max, if my math is rigth, 50GB would take 4.6 hours to finish

But, I just finished it in about 2 hours, and in those 2 hours i should only have downloaded 22GB~

 

I have noticed several times before that Origin reports way higher download speeds from time to time when downloading a game

 

So my "conclusion" is this. The size of the download which Origin reports is actually just the size of the finished install.

And then the way to high download speed reported is just the download client thingy compensating for the difference between reported size and actuall size

 

 

(I'm gonna feel dumb now if this is something well known and I just didn't manage to find this on google)

 

EDIT: Titanfall do have an actuall "Unpacking audio" process, so I guess this sort of helps proving it. But I have also noticed this in other games than Titanfall (like BF4, BF3 and BC2)

Titanfall is only a 20GB download, its 50GB when installed.

 

Thats the same as Steam, Uplay and any other thing. You dowinload it compressed and then the installed files are larger.

Yeah I was ready to say, no way in hell they would make you download a 50GB File without compressing it.

This is a good thing, and there is few poopy thing about Origin

I'd rather not be downloading a 50GB file.

Just noticed it and liked to share it. I like it, though find it weird they don't report the right download size, that's all

Don't really matter, I think it's good as it uses less bandwidth, I think steam and uplay do it to, and gog direct dl
