Oculus Rift Dk2 has Gsync/freesync like tech ?!?!!

EDIT

NVM i got my ass handed to me when i mention this on reddit .....

they had some good reasons i suggested was wrong

in their new video  1:10 - 1:23

i believe it has Variable VBlank

"our low persistence display shows and image only for a brief amount of time then display goes dark until the next frame comes "

no judder

it waits until the next frame !

Whichever person it was that had the idea to do this must've been sitting down somewhere staring at the wall then..

i really like the guys over at oculus if it was sony they will implement this feature as revolutionary and have it on CV2 lol ...

This idea is very similar to g-sync so is not their idea but I am happy that they did it. Better for us.

Gsync isnt even nvidia's idea

its been a Vesa standard well before Gsync ever started

*sigh* My wallet is gonna HATE me...

EDIT: I hope oculus isn't going to be bothersome to wear with glasses and a headphone on.... x.x

NVM what i posted

they had some good reasons on what i suggested was wrong

since VSync is required for VR  every refresh is going to be a frame

they might be wrong .....

You have misunderstand what he said, he didn't talk about gsync like technology at all. Instead what he talked about was low persistence tech, which is what lightboost 2 monitors can do with the strobed backlight. The idea with the OR is not to use gsync but instead to ensure much higher FPS and use strobed backlight low persistence to reduce motion blur. That video didn't suggest gsync at all unfortunately.

wat. I covered this in my oculus crystal cove overview - its called low persistence

Its not Gsync or Freesync, its an OLED technology where it switches the panel on and off

what i thought he meant in the latest video is that "it waits for the next frame"

which sounds like variable VBlank tech

but ignore what i said  earlier because of new info

Well, most people who can lay enough money down for one of these is probably going to have a decent pc right?

its not quite the same as g-sync. It more of just a property of the kind of panel being used.

This is not the same thing as G-Sync. G-Sync is when a game of piece of software randers a frame and the refresh rate of the monitor is synced to the framerate. An oscillating backlight is where the backlight turns off in between screen refreshes. So when he says the backlight waits until the next frame he means the next refresh and not next actual frame. This is a lot more similar to Lightboost which is an Nvidia technology intended for 3D but is commonly hacked to run at 120hz. I hope I could help people understand the diffrence.

The consumer version is targeting $200 or so, they aren't trying to make it expensive. The second dev kit obviously has changed quite a lot from the first one and we will see more progress towards the consumer version. There is still a content issue but its looking like at least a few games coming out this year will support it properly.
