Can this become a streaming (recording) PC?

Mark Kaine

So since I'll be replacing my PSU soon I'll almost have everything to build a new PC with mostly old parts, I just need some suggestions for the missing parts, a case, a motherboard and a "streaming" / capturing card I suppose.

parts I already have :

Bequiet pure power 500w

MSI GTX 1060 Gaming X 6GB

Ryzen 2200G

2x4GB DDR4 Corsair Vengeance 3000mhz

So I'm thinking a A320, or whatever else is cheap?

A really small and cheap case, if possible.

A capturing card, 1440p would be nice.

And maybe more RAM if needed? I think 8GB should be probably fine though?

A320 will get the job done but it doesn't have support for 3rd gen ryzen and I don't think it can overclock. The Silverstone fara R1 is a pretty cheap case and its approved by gamers nexus. As far as a capture card goes I don't think it's nesssacary and obs will probally be just fine, I reccomended spending that money on 16 gigs of ram instead.

oh right I wasn't sure I need a capture card or not... that's good, and I figured more ram couldn't hurt. Thanks.

So would a B350 for example be better then? I think price differences should be minimal... I'll look for that case, I'd really like a small one so that might be tricky on the cheap.

Yea b350 would be better but you would still have to upgrade when/if you upgrade your cpu to ryzen 5000 series.

wait, how do I get any video in without a capture card...?

This might be a misunderstanding but this pc is only meant to stream / record, not playing games - it would be nice if I didn't need a capture device but as far I know motherboards don't have any inputs for video signals at all?

I'm not an expert so I don't know how it works but apps like obs use some sort of software to take what is actively being displayed on your screen were I think a capture card takes the image that is being transmitted to your moniter. Basically a capture card interacts with your gpu directly were as a software takes the image after it has been displayed to the screen.

Right, but I looked this up, this streaming /recording pc still would not have video signal in, which it needs to record or stream anything.

Hence a "capture card" is required I would think.

Sadly this is almost a deal breaker because they're really expensive lol... I'd need to build the rest of the pc first and some time later get a capture card...

the cheapest I'm finding for this one is 250 €. And 4k is required to record in 1440p as well.

Idk what your looking at but you dont need a capture card to record your screen. If you have a laptop or running desktop download obs its a free software and it records at 1080p60 or more I'm not entirely shure.

PC 1 (my gaming PC)

--------->

PC 2 (my streaming PC)

How is PC 2 going to record / stream what's happening on PC 1 without any kind of connection?

And unfortunately PCs don't have any kind of video in, only out, hence a capture card is needed.

One flavor of OBS uses NDITek plugin which allows you to do video over network connection. Then you don't need a capture card.

Hmm, interesting, and quality wise it should be about the same?

I was thinking maybe one of those camera hdmi - USB adapter thingies would work too? They're much cheaper than a capturing card.

It should be. It's free to try, so you can test it and see if it works to your liking.
