I have a meh motherboard with a lga1151 socket and a i7 7700 (non k) and i wanted to know if i could upgrade to a i7 9700k without changing it out

@ragnarok0273 It is one of those acer prebuilt ones, it is the last part i havent switched out i have upgraded everything else

Nope, you would have to swap the mobo out. I would def swap it out for an upgrade anyway because the OEM Acer mobos are terrible.

7000 and 6000 series use 200 and 100 chipsets respectively and are NOT compatible with the 300 series chipsets that support 8000 and 9000 series CPUs or vice versa. It doesn't matter what model board or chipset.

I7 9700k uses socket 1151 , you should check you updated your bios to the newest version

You've got a locked chipset so you can't overclock (you can still utilize the boost clock). I wouldn't bother with anything more than a Hyper212 or something similar for the CPU.

Then go with an air cooler. AIOs have pump noise and fan noise. Air coolers don't have pump noise. Just get something decent for like $30

I wouldn't pay $300 on a 9700k when 3700x, 10600k and 5600x exist at the same price point.

a 120mm AIO is useless, will be hot and loud. get a mid-range air cooler instead
