I never want to hear budget and $1000 for a computer together being used in the same context again. Title has it right, Linus had it all wrong.

Also, also 5700 XT is PCI 4 compatible... Not like it can use it but it has it.

Equally I find it funny how Linus is playing nice towards the 5700 XT but bashed on AMDs 6000 series.

A modular PSU at this price point is such a waste of $30-40 as well as getting a more expensive case if you are really trying to save every dime like you are acting. Also why even bother getting a cooler when both come with it? All that money saved can go into much better motherboards for both parties who could actually use the higher end CPU's properly as well as fully unlock the Intel memory controller which is likely what made it perform so poorly in that one benchmark.

Agreed. Mid-range to me is 5-600$ (tops) and whatever CPUs that gets you. I realize Intel 10th Gen is the current rage, but if on a mid-range system, 8th and 9th gen CPUs can still be had

If it was Cyberpunk before 1.05 patch, Ryzen CPU might push a bit more fps there.

I've decided to watch some LTT videos since I got some time on my hand and holy crap they have not changed one bit since I stopped watching them.

How can Linus with a straight face try and say that you can get a "fantastic" "budget" gaming PC for 1000 dollars.

No Linus, spending 1000 dollars and getting a Ryzen 3100 or Intel 10100, with a budget motherboard, really bad SSD, bad GPU and shitty case is not a "fantastic PC". And I think you know this as well since you even started talking about future upgrades in the video. Nobody spending 1000 dollars on a PC should go in with the mindset that they need to upgrade stuff in the future because they have bought low end stuff (yet somehow spent 1000 dollars).

The conclusion of this video shouldn't be "yeah go ahead and spend 1000 dollars on a PC I pretend is fantastic, because then you can spend even more money on replacing parts later". And then you say this is a "big win for you, the consumer"? Fuck off Linus.

The conclusion should have been "don't buy a PC because pricing and availability is shit right now". If you actually cared about your viewers and not just pleasuring your sponsors that want you to be their sales guy, you would tell your viewers:

Quote

This PC that costs 1000 dollars was only worth like half of that a couple of months ago. Don't spend 1000 dollars on a PC now. You don't actually need a new gaming PC. Save that money and buy a PC next year when pricing have gotten more reasonable. You will get far more bang for your buck.

I understand that your sponsors might not like it, but for your viewers sake it is better to recommend they save their money, rather than recommend they buy something bad.

I just built a system very close to this using a i3 10100, Asus Prime B460 plus, Corsair non modular, using a left over 1080 and Corsair 3200 ram and I decided to stay with the stock cooler for now since it's not going to be overclocked. It was a Christmas present and so far working great for the games he wanted to play. If you start looking at components you can actually buy right now that are not ridiculously overpriced, like the linked 5700xt for $600 plus for example, there's not a lot to pick from real world. Going with the 10100 you have a 1200 socket MB so when prices get back to normal it's an easy path to a big upgrade. First post here, just my thinking on this.

I am very rarely so confused that I come here to comment... but my goodness the 2.5mm SATA III SSD choice? NVME M.2 SSDs from reputable brands are plus or minus the exact same price for the capacity and the motherboard supports it! PC Part Picker M.2 NVME SSDs 960GB+

Even if you just accept overpaying for the graphics cards by a massive amount like they did in the video as a "given" for the builds up-front, you can still very easily do way better than that on both the Intel and AMD side of things... Here's two builds I threw together in like five minutes that both come out to a bit less price-wise than their video equivalents.
