Really depends on what game types you play and MAXFPS you kinda want to achieve.

Res, Refresh Rates and the games you play.

Usage other than Gaming?

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

I would just say look at the price and how long you plan on going before you upgrade. If you aren't gonna think about upgrading your system for 3-4 years, get a 9700k, as they can be found for cheaper and more easily that the 3700x. If you're the type to upgrade every year and maintain 1 generation behind, get the 3700x, as the upgrade path allows for 5th gen Ryzen. Multicore performance is better with the 3700x, but if all you are doing is streaming and playing games, Intel quicksync and the higher gaming performance of the 9700k would make it the better choice for right now. Then again, with that monitor and GPU config, no matter what you go with these chips will not be the bottleneck in a gaming situation. If you live near a Microcenter, go and pick up a 9700k for $200 with a motherboard combo deal and for that price, you really cannot go wrong.

Streaming, GTA, COD, MC, on a 75hz monitor with a  Radeon RX 5600 XT GPU.

thats a tough one, but with a 75hz monitor, i recommend the 3700x over the 9700k only because of streaming, if u can get ur hands on a 5600x, i'd recommend that instead.

Alright, I think I might stick with the 9700k then. I don’t plan to upgrade often either so that seems like a plus. Thanks for the input!

intels higher single core is often better for gaming.

But the new 5000 amd series have gotten a lot better for gaming, not quite beat intel in some areas.

They do have more flexibility, where it could help with streaming too, and some features they might have for that, if they help that much at all?

if you already have an good intel CPU, better GPU might be a goal instead?

For the price of  5600x compared to the 9700k, and knowing I don’t need that good of  setup for streaming or gaming, I think that the 9700k might be the way to go.

If you can find a 5600x for MSRP, get it as those chips are some of, if not the best value gaming chips on the market, otherwise just go with the 9700k. Just look up how to set up quicksync so your iGPU on the CPU can transcode your stream rather than relying on a few of your cores to do it for you.

I don’t know too much about computers but aren’t pretty much all Ryzen 7s better than Ryzen 5s?

Ryzen 7 has more cores, but a newer Ryzen 5 will be better for gaming than an older ryzen 7 in the majority of cases, due to the improved single core speed

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I need?

The main difference between Ryzen 7 and Ryzen 5 is core count. in single threaded applications, gaming being among them, the difference is marginal, with minimal difference between them.

What exactly are single or multiple threaded applications? Sorry I don’t know much.

It just means applications use more or less cores. Games traditionally do not use many cores, as the majority of them were programmed in the days when 4 cores were the standard. Productivity workloads, like video editing, animation, transcoding, streaming, then to benefit from having more cores. Streaming, though benefits to a point, when it has enough power to run the stream, more cores or core speed does not help. Multicore workloads also involve multitasking, so if you run a a render in the background on 2 cores and a game on the remaining 4 cores if you have a 6 core chip.

single core, is often for games, having higher frames (fps). Although they more often can use more cores these days than older titles.

with ryzen you often get more cores and threads, which means you can use more applications or softwares.

Like playing AND streaming, being different work loads.

ohh ok thanks that explains a lot. the 9700k has 8 cores and i’m only going to be gaming mostly. i think it’ll work. thank you!
