Is it dead? Not Initialized Unknown No Space

Wufflez

All of a sudden I wasn't able to access my storage drive. I opened disk management and saw this:

image.png.c31461d89ae6357af5b20c86cb85a52b.png

I tried to initialize it but I get the error: "a device which does not exist was specified"

I don't really care for the disk itself, but it had some data I'd like to recover from it. Is there anyway possible?

It was a 2TB Star(something) drive from Hitachi. HDD not SSD. It's an internal drive that I used for storage

I have had lots of luck putting failing/messed up drives in an external hd bay (usb) and I usually am able to get them to work, or at the very least access them enough to run a program like r-studio on them to get the data off.

Yeah not my bandwidth (115mbps down). I'll be patient. Still need to pick out a new drive. Happen to know if RAM on ssd is important if it's just being used for storage?

That error could indicate that the drive connection might have come loose or the cable might have gone bad. Have you cracked the case open and checked the cables are in fully? Might also be worth trying it in a different SATA port and/or trying a new SATA data cable.

I just tried this, reseated the power cables, and exchanged the SATA cable and tried a new port but no luck

I was able to install an ssd with the original port and cable, so that kind of rules that out.

I'm sorry I missed you. I'd still like to see if the data on the drive is still recoverable. I have Ubuntu ready to boot into. Once I boot into it, what would the next step be to take? image.png.ebd1bba35a72a09fb7410b59bb2c84a9.png

sda must be the new ssd that I installed (not the broken drive)

nvme0n1 is my OS drive

...I don't see the affected 2TB drive listed
