Is my m.2 NVME too hot?

nagz06

Hello,

I've got a Samsung Evo 970 Plus 250gb m.2 NVME as an OS drive (only) and at idle its temp is around 53C~55C. During load or benchmarking, it reaches at around 59C~61C. Is this normal or is it too hot?
Do I need to buy a 3rd party m.2 Heat Sink cooler?

Ambient temp: 29C~30C

I'm using a stock heat sink by the way

My setup is pretty similar, and the temps on my 970 are about the same. I wouldn't be worried about it.

I would say the only thing to hot is your ambient temperature.

It's hard to cool down these small dense parts...

Yeah it is fine, bigger 2.5 inch SSDs have more surface area and so they run 15-20 degrees lower...

As long as system doesn't hang, all you get is perks of lighter weight and saved space without any drawbacks.

I goggled a bit earlier, and the NVME SSD I've got, a Corsair MP600, has a temp limit of 70c. Mine runs 50c under load, but it's winter here. Anything under 70c should be okay, from what my goggle searches turned up, for most SSD's, but it wouldn't hurt to try and find a specs page for your specific SSD.

Just an update...

I tried removing the label/sticker of my Samsung Evo 970 Plus 250gb m.2 NVME so that the NAND chips and controller has direct contact to the thermal pad; and the temperature drops as much as 5°C
