Why would it work for Ampere but not for Turing GPUs?..

yes. RM750X is very good unit. What are you more confortable with? rm850 or rm750X? @Stahlmann did run 3700x and 3080 with rm650x. It made coil whine but upgrading to rm850x fixed it.

Think in this way. The GPU requires a stable 12v. While a good quality power supply will provide solid 12v all the time no matter what. A cheapy PSU will drop the 12v rail to 11.3v(for example) under heavy load. Then you see the game, or the PC crash. Does it make it easier to understand?

well rmx can be overkill, but it is really silent, but it dpeends on yor setup. 750w would be overkill for rtx 2060-2080 super.

I think you're confusing 'overkill' with 'adequate', to be perfectly honest.

While you could probably run a 2080 off of something like an MWE White v2 or CXM, it doesn't mean you should. Ideally you'd want to get something that's not just borderline passable, for what it's supposed to be powering.

When quality is concerned there is no such thing as overkill.

 

Overkill is a vastly overused word when it comes to computer parts, especially PSUs.

 

There really is no such thing as overkill except in extreme examples like running a cheap email box with no GPU and putting a 1000W Titanium PSU in it.

 

750W is the sweet spot wattage wise for gaming rigs most of the time, anything from say a 1080 and up really. Plenty of room for upgrades normally up to an including the new 3000 series cards, although on the light side for a 3080 or 3090 depending. Plus 750W PSU gives better cabling options than most 650W and under.

Please don't skimp on your PSU.

I get flamed many times by people because I always tell them to "over-buy", but I stand by my words no matter how many people hate me.

The PSU is the *MOST IMPORTANT* part of your system.  Just like the heart is the most critical part of your body (Followed by the brain).

Your PSU supplies the blood flow (electricity) to your computer.  Don't you want your heart to function properly?  Do you know what happens to people with heart disease?

 

Don't skimp on the PSU.  Other components can be easily swapped out.  And try to see if you can get a PSU that comes with 16 aug cables if possible.

I mean, not many people overload their PSU so you wouldn't see these reports of PSUs blowing up often, although that shows there's definitely something wrong with it as it shouldn't blow-up unless you overload it routinely for a long time. And a lot of reports of DoA on Newegg confirm that this PSU is not a good pick.

Right.  That test was beyond worst case scenario.  But the PSU should have quality enough parts and proper protection as to NOT explode in these circumstances.
