tv Is an OLED worth it as a primary gaming display (occasionally used as a monitor?)

I’m looking at maybe the BX in a 55 inch size, but I’m kind of concerned about burn in on a $1500(+500 or so for warranty?) T.V.

I'm also looking at the 900H or 950H. I am undecided if I “need„ 2.1 for a tv I will probably keep for a while, the 2x better HDR of the 950 for $200 more is very tempting.

OLED panels suck for gaming. They are awesome for content consumption but if you value high refresh rate and low pixel response times, don't get OLED.

Unless you're laying on the couch with a game pad and a bag of cheeto's, 55" is way too big for a computer monitor. 

 

IMO 27" sitting at a desk is the sweet spot.

For varied gaming use, an OLED is an excellent choice. Just maker sure ur not leaving high contrast static UIs on the screen for thousands of hours.

 

OLEDs have near instant pixel response times making them far superior to LCD for gaming.

 

using HDMI 2.1 u can even get 4k 120hz. The current gen Lg OLEDs also come with BFI and VRR.

 

In all honesty unless u NEED 240hz , theres nothing a monitor can do better for gaming. . apart form the smaller size ofc.

I use two 55" LG B9s as monitors. One has been used for over a year, 8+ hours a day with no issues. 

I am not worried about bur-in since if I get 3 years out of them by that time I will want something new anyway. They do have lots of built in nannies that dim the display and shift the pixels but if you don't trust that a good old screen saver is the thing to use.

I also have HDR off in Windows and only use it for HDR content. 

 

I bought a 49" LG NanoCell 85 with HDMI 2.1 on Monday to replace my 28" Samsung TN 4k monitor that I use on my test bench.. I wish I could do a review of it but it has not arrived yet. It was $500 so it was cheaper than the 43" monitors I was looking at.  The monitors were only 4k 60hz and the TV is 4k 120hz and with a 30 series Nvidia card. 

 

HDMI 2.1 is for The new consoles and the new video cards. If you are planning in getting any of these it is a must have. Right now with my 20 series cards they do 4k 60 and 1440p 120hz.

 

You don't need a high end video card to enjoy gaming on an OLD TV.  Any 20 series video card that can do 1440p will work great since 1440p on a OLED is beyond belief good. Even better than my dedicated 1440p monitors.

 

The big letdown is the sound. Nvidia does not like eARC so I have to use the sound bar remote for sound.
