What PSU do i need?

i built this on pc part picker. it says 469 watts . what size PSU do i need though , ive watched some videos on it but I keep getting different info everywhere. some say you need 1.2 to 1.25x the wattage pcpartpicker spits out and some say about 1.5x . so how much do i need ? and is there a formula i can follow in case i build something else ?

650W is perfectly suitable for this build. The 'calculated' power draw for this build is 469W (nice). But this number is the combined total of each components max draw. In the real world all components will not simultaneously draw at their max. And in this case even if they did, you would have plenty of headroom. 

 

Alternatively you could go for an 80+ Gold unit that is of equal build quality to save some money (efficiency does not equal quality). That said the P2 is solid, I have a 5-year-old 750W P2 and a 2-year-old 850W P2, both have been rock solid, no issues, no coil wine etc. 

 

For the PSU tier list refer to this:

The P2 is a Tier A PSU as are the following options.

 

650W 80+ Gold options I would recommend are:

I would recommend nothing less than 750W, the PSU you listed but in 750W is fine.

 

Or a Corsair RMX 750W.

 

The reason is better cabling options and room to upgrade down the road.

Seems like the question about the psu has been answered. but why intel? AMD is now in the lead. Most AMD cpus are not in the stock right now but they will be some pretty day.

Thanks for answering but can you give me some more info. what i wanted to know was how to calculate what power supply i need for any build. If pcpartpicker tells me I need 500 watts will a 500 watt power supply be enough ? If its not how do i know how big of a PSU i will need depending on the total wattage pcpartpicker gives me? I dont want to waste money on a bigger power supply and on my electric bill if i dont need to. from a youtube video I watched i was told if your system needs 500 watts you should get 1.2 times that which is 600 watts. is this a correct approach ? please advise , appreciate any help !

honestly didnt even look at any of them yet. im just playing around for now trying to build the cheapest system that will allow me to have a fast trading computer with 4 screens

PCPartPicker gets the calculated wattage by adding the max draw of each individual component. However, in the real world all components will never simultaneously draw at their max, just the odd spike here and there. So buying a PSU that is just above the calculated wattage is safe, extra headroom is also never a bad idea as a PSU operates at peak efficiency at around half load.
