Intel or AMD - Bang for the buck?

Hello everyone

I am considering buying a new gaming rig and going what i call "all out"

i mostly game on my pc, but sometimes i do CAD/CAM work aswell in programs such as Mastercam and inventor.

In the photo i have attached you will see the configuration i am currently thinking, but what i want to know is-

Am i better of getting one of the new Ryzen CPU's instead of the i9 10900 i currently have chosen, ofcourse i would need to change motherboard aswell.

i would like to know a better combination of CPU/motherboard for the same amount of money

Or i would like to know a cheaper combo of CPU/motherboard for less money with the same performance.

ALSO i would like my motherboard to include WIFI.

I look very much forward to hearing all of your suggestions!

Best regards from Denmark 🇩🇰😀

I guarantee you everyone is going to say Ryzen. But if you can get a pretty good deal with the Intel chip as CPU + motherboard combos are more common with Intel platforms it seems, the tables can turn if we're talking raw purchase price to performance.

I would personally also say AMD unless you can get a great deal on intel

I'd recommend the 5000 series but since the recent supply problems... :( might be a while

I don't think the price/performance comparison across CPU makers is as clear anymore, but I do suspect that the i9 it's not going to be a good value compared not just to AMD but also other Intel offerings.

Then again, it all depends on which prices you have access to.

Like, Vega was hard to justify from any angle, but then when it was time for me to upgrade my GPU the 56 was at such a price that it was impossible to justify anything better or equal for my use case. (if only I had known about the drivers, though :P)

In general, though, if you can justify the premium over the i7 to go for 10 cores then you probably are much better served by a higher end Ryzen, and if not then you can get 95-100% of the gaming performance with an i5 or i7 (and the latter already accounts for some "futureproofing, games that use more cores are coming!").

Getting a non K 10900 is sort of pointless since the only thing that is interesting about the i9 10900k is its boost clocks.  You are better off with a R9 3900x

I also would not recommend an i9 10900k without getting a 360mm AIO minium and a high end motherboard like a ASUS Hero. The reason is it has to stay below 70c for all the boost clocks to work. So it is 70c at 230 watts.  With a 5.3 overclock it uses over 330 watts.

With the setup I use the i9 10900k stock is faster in games than my i9 9900k and i7 8086k, both with 5ghz all core overclocks.  An i9 10900 will be slower in games.

If you can wait go with the new Ryzen like the R9 5900x.

Thank you very much i think i will go with the Ryzen 5600x it seems to do really well in benchmarks and at a good pricepoint aswell. what afforable motherboards that include WIFI would you guys recomend? i was thinking something like "Asus ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING (WI-FI) ATX AM4 Motherboard" But is says something about possible compatibility issues do you know if that will be a problem?

Thanks A LOT again 😉

The strix-f is a good motherboard. There is a chance it might not have the correct bios installed, if it's old stock, but you can update that with a usb stick using bios flashback. This is the case for all b550 and x570 boards, as they were launched before the cpus were launched

I usually buy Aorus Utra or ASUS Maximus Heros.

I also like the sound quality of these boards.

I only like ASUS high end boards and if I need something that cost less I buy Aorus.
