3080 Lotto with 4790k

Hello LTT

Been a while. I hit the Strix 3080 lotto today from BB drops. My current CPU is still the old i7 4790k with 16GB DDR3. My next purchase was going to be a larger monitor the card can drive.

Should I start researching CPUs and motherboards first?

Either the LG 38 or the much cheaper dell that is xzxz x 1600 resolution.

Thanks in advance,

I would get the monitor first.

I have a LG 38" 3840 X 1600 monitor and am totally GPU bound in modern games just like 4k.

If you have SOTTR you can check your score against my i7 8086k/2080 ti score to see how much more CPU you will need. With a 3080 you should get about 115+.

Oh my! Not sure what SOTTR is. I play RPGs and 3rd person titles. Lookig for a monitor that is "taller" in game. Meaning when I look at a castle I want to see more vertically.

Wht does GPU bound in modern games mean? Dos it look good? Do you like the LG 38?

Shadow of the Tomb Raider. The game has a good bench for testing hardware.

The LG 38" monitor has the same aspect ratio as a 3440 X 1440 monitor so no gain in height, just more pixels for a better quality image.

GPU bound means that I am not CPU bottlenecked at that resolution. In SOTTR I am CPU bottlenecked at 1440p.

The 38" LG is the only monitor I would use and I will only replace it if a 48" 21:9 monitor becomes available.  Right now it is being used for video editing.

The only equivalent is what I am using now and that is a LG 55" OLED TV.

Oh jeez derp. Yes Tomb Raider. Doh!

Thought 3840 X 1600 meant larger environment in game?

I’d get the cpu now. I had to upgrade from that cpu when the 10 series launched while on 1440p. Couldn’t imagine with that card on any res.

Poop! Had the 5600X but canceled as I saw some videos where the person as a 4670 and a 3080. Then I thought I live near a Microcenter and they do CPU/Board specials so I would go there eventually... Guess I should of kept the Ryzen CPU and held onto it until I found a board I liked. D'oh!
