Desoldering laptop cpu's and gpu's

Hi everyone

 

I recently started collect cpu's and gpu's and have some old laptops laying around but after opening them up I found out the cpu's were soldered to the motherboard. Is there a way to safely remove the cpu's I don't really care if they don't work anymore as long as the still look the same. sorry if my English isn't that good I'm not a native English speaker

A heat gun and flux should do. You can buy a reflow stations for like $200-$400

Since you aren't worried about reusing the processors, start at a the middle setting.  If after a few minutes it doesnt flow the solder, turn it up and try again.  Keep doing this until you can pull the processor off.  Since you are going to destroy the motherboard anyways, you could also practice pulling off other SMD components until you figure out the general temperature range.  I doubt you will damage the processor's appearance if you get it too hot though.

You need BGA station if you want to safely remove the CPU.
