Hey all, got a slight concern regarding my PC. When I'm putting my PC under heavy load, my Phanteks Sleeved Extension Cables get very hot to the touch around the circled part in the picture. Is this normal/okay? These are powering a ROG Strix OC RTX 3080, PSU is a Corsair RM850i.

That makes sense.

That is where the power is being drawn, and under heavy load, more power would go through there.

This would equal more heat.

I think?

The connector is where there is the most resistance. More resistance = more heat.

As long as they don't burn you, or are melting, or smell. They're perfectly fine.

3 8pin PCIe connectors are plenty for a 3080.

If the extension wires are thinner than the PSU wires this can happen.

Compare the gauges or plug your PSU cables in without extensions and see if they get as hot.

Got rid of my extensions when I got my 3080.

My system power draw went up by 100w with the 3080.

What a shame, I literally just installed these today.

Get rid of the Phanteks extensions.  If you want white individually sleeved cables, but cables MADE FOR THE PSU.
