Need PCIE 4.0 Riser Card/Bracket for RTX 3090 in 011D XL

Shai Hulud

Just ordered Optimus waterblock for my EVGA RTX 3090 FTW3 Ultra GPU, and although I haven't seen dimensions listed based on how thick the acrylic on this waterblock is I am skeptical as to whether it will fit in the 011 Dynamic XL horizontally without having to remove the glass. It may not fit vertically either but I think the chance is better, plus it looks better.

But this card is 11 inches long and will be quite heavy with this waterblock so I expect most riser brackets will sag. I've googled this and looked at some different products but not really found anything I think will work well.

Any suggestions on a PCIE 4.0 riser bracket and cable for a BFGPU with a BFWB?

My PC specs, minus peripherals and watercooling stuff

A: There are no PCIE gen 4 risers yet.

B: They're not necessary. Gen 3 works just fine and you don't even saturated the Gen 3 bandwidth with a Gen 4 card.

Are you sure? I searched on Amazon and found a few that claimed to be PCIE 4.0 anyway...e.g. this one

https://www.amazon.com/LINKUP-RX5700XT-Vertical-Straight-Compatible/dp/B0898S49H4/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=pcie+4.0+riser+card&qid=1603189885&s=electronics&sr=1-3

Also Optimus JUST listed the specs of the waterblock, and the 011DXL has 169mm height clearance horizontally so it should actually fit horizontally, but I'd still prefer to do vertically if possible.... The block weighs 5 freaking pounds though.

MAIN BLOCK: height: 123mm (flush with edges of pcb), width: 287.5mm

BLOCK THICKNESS: 24mm (from PCB)

TERMINAL: 25.5mm high

BACKPLATE: 5.3mm (sticks out 7.6mm w/ thermal pad)

WEIGHT: 5lbs

Hmm...seems like I'm better horizontally mounting it then? Or it really makes no difference if it's PCIE3?

It does not make any difference at all. A pcie 3.0 x16 slot is not fully saturated at all by a 3090.

you can use a Gen 3 riser for vertical mounting with no issues. The RTX 3000 series are Gen 4 GPUs, but all the running in SLI that Jayztwocents, GamersNexus, and Paulshardware have done have been with there cards on Gen 3 risers. It makes ZERO difference to card performance.
