My pc is having a problem. It is asking for administrative permissions even to open task manager! Also some apps like disk management are somehow blocked by a administrator. Also troubleshooters say something about its integrity couldn't be verified.... please help! (Btw this is all through an administrative account itself, strange, I know.)

 want to install chrome os? here's how.

Disconnect internet, run anti-virus scan and anti-malware scan first.
It might not be it, but better safe then sorry.

When i ask for more specs, don't expect me to know the answer!

I know it isn't malware or viruses.

I have run the virus scan long ago... It is due to some incorrect permissions I think.

You mean the UAC (User Access Control) dialog for YES or NO to run a Program?
Type UAC into Start and it should come up with this... Which isn't set like this by default but one or two steps higher and gives a Halted Dialog box for Yes or No when you run MOST tasks.
I have it disabled for my PC's, surprised I even remembered it at 2am, but the descripto OP used was enough.. so that's good.

Can you go to:

C:\Windows\System32\Taskmgr.exe

Right-click on the executable, and pick "Properties"

Then go to the "Security" tab, and make sure you have the following:

  • ALL APPLICATION PACKAGES -> Read & Execute + Read
  • ALL RESTRICTED APPLICATION PACKAGES -> Read & Execute + Read
  • SYSTEM -> Read & Execute + Read
  • Administrators -> Read & Execute + Read
  • Users -> Read & Execute + Read
  • TrustedInstaller -> Full Control + Modify + Read & Execute + Read + Write

If that is not a match, then we know that the permission of the OS was played with.

After that, if all good:

From the Windows search box type and hit Enter: netplwiz

A panel will open, click on your account in the list and pick "Properties"

Then go under the "Group Membership" tab, and ensure that you have the following:

After any changes, logoff and log back in, or  restart your PC.

If you have Windows 10 Pro, let me know

Yes it is Pro.. And I will try it today. Also sfc finds corrupt files but it's unable to fix them.

ok very good.

What I wanted to add for you to check:

Under netplwiz panel, go to the "Advanced" tab, and then inside, hit the "Advanced" button

A panel will open, with 2 folders "Users" and "Groups".

First, double click on "Users" then double click on your account, to get another panel to show up.

Go to the "Member Of" tab, and make sure that "Administrators" (with an 's' at the end) is there.

If it looks good, you can close this panel, and now navigate to "Groups" on the previous panel.

Then double click on 'Administrators' to get a panel to show up, and make sure that you have "Administrator", and your account name showing in the box in the middle of that panel.

If all good, close it, and then pick "System Managed Accounts", and see if you have "DefaultAccount" only listed. If yes, good! Don't touch, and close.

Then lastly, double click on "Users", and make sure you have only 2 entries:

"NT AUTHORITY\Authenticates Users (S-1-5-11)"

and

"NT AUTHORITY\INTERACTIVE (S-1-5-4)"

Of course, like before, any changes, requires that you logoff and log back in, or restart your system to take affect.

-snip-

I sincerely hope your suggestions will fix this for the OP, but what do you think how could this even happen?

Did they play around with permissions, or is it a bug...?

Also that the OP said they did a virus scan "long ago" is a serious red flag to me.... But idk how likely such behavior can be caused by a virus / malware, it sure sounds like something malware would do though (taking over admin permissions)

Again, I hope this can be fixed with some permission settings as you suggested, but I'm very curious how something like this even happens?  🤔

The direction tells you... the direction
