With Windows xp, it just keept freezing

Same with linux mint and puppy but they keep freezing, less than with xp, but it is still unable unless you don't wanna wait like 2/4 hours for every operations

open that thing and reapply thermal paste, clean the fan etc.

check the drive for bad sectors, reinstall the os.

The little netbook? Those kinda suck. If you really want to use it:

 

1. Replace thermal paste

2. Max out RAM

3. SSD

Compatible ram and some trash ssd how much would cost?

Because dunno if they will be worth the expense or is it better getting a whole other pc

It isn't.

Those old Atom CPUs are completely outclassed these days, and IIRC, part of the RAM is soldered in, and if that is bad, you are SOL

compatible ram might be DDR2 (or DDR1 i don't know).

You can find those in ebay. If you're not sure, try reading the ram label and match the speed / ratings but getting a bigger capacity.

Those ebooks usually only has 1 memory slots, so max memory you can get is 4gb in 1 sodimm DDR2 module ($5-15).

For SSD i suggest getting a Kingston a400 or Sandisk ssd plus. 128gb is enough (around $25).

I don't think it would be worth putting money into them these days. I have a few, and even the nicest one I own is still very slow compared to anything more recent.

Unless you can find used RAM and SSD for under $50 and ideally around $20, no, not worth putting money into it.

With how weak the CPUs in those machines are I'd be hesitant to say that it would be worth putting that much into it at all.

Even with Lubuntu, I could barely get one of those old netbooks to be functional.
