GPU burnt up

Go to solution Solved by oops_idiedagain,

Well I found a 1660 super 6gb GPU for $230.00 shipped. I should get roughly same performance as my dead 980ti (my first GPU above $500) Gonna clean it up and put it on wall of fame, lol. TY for the answers

hello everyone, so the night before last my 980ti literally went up in smoke, PSU power surge and dead GPU. Luckily nothing else was damaged. My ? to you all is I have $250 for a new or used GPU, my specs are as follows.

CPU: 1600AF

RAM: 16gb 3200mhz

MOBO: ASUS B450 Prime

PSU: 700w Thermaltake Smart 80+

GPU: GTX 760 (only other GPU round)

Thank you all in advance for any suggestions.

If you can wait a month or so, for botting scalpers to settle down a bit and for stocks to return, maybe, just maybe, used prices may also go down a bit. Even more so when they 3070 is released and AMD release their cards too at the end of the month. As such, there's a possibility you might be able to get a good card on the cheap. But again, this is basically gambling on the "wait and see" approach.

If you can't wait at all... I don't think you can afford the 2060 used, because they are still selling for over $300, unless you get lucky with an auction and manage to get one at $275 or so.

In 3 months time, I wouldn't be surprised to see 2060 at $200 used if AMD's offering is competitive.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 3700x / GPU: Asus Radeon RX 6750XT OC 12GB / RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x8GB DDR4-3200
MOBO: MSI B450m Gaming Plus / NVME: Corsair MP510 240GB / Case: TT Core v21 / PSU: Seasonic 750W / OS: Win 10 Pro

as far as waiting not sure on that, I literally took a 10X performance hit. 30fps time spy as opposed to 3fps with the gtx760. As much as I'd like a 30 series or new AMD GPU I'll wait 6 months to a yr before going to new GPU architecture. The 980ti had 6gb vram so I was thinking 1660 variant with 6gb vram for 6 months to a yr, i want to upgrade cpu when i go to 20 or 30 series

Might want to get rid of that PSU.... ;)

Just saying....

Replace it with a good quality PSU, if you don't want the same thing to happen to the next graphics card, or worse.
