He doesn't need anymore storage, he's like me and only plays a few games at a time. I think right now he's still using the 60gb SSD's he got with his last computer.

what I dont get though is with a monitor that small, wont it be pixel dense to a point of redundancy?

It should be more life like. More pixels = better image. The bigger 4k monitors give up too much. TN panels, etc.

Hopefully they'll come out with something awesome by the time this gets built.

Especially with my buddy (who this is for) he's a little on the blind side haha

But he wants 4k and won't be swayed from it so...

This monitor will actually be 2" bigger than the one he uses now, when he's not gaming on his TV.

He says the smaller screens make him better.

You don't need a 4930k

You dont need a Rampage Black

You dont need 64Gb of RAM

You dont need a 1250w PSU

You're going to want to wait for a bigger monitor

Gett a 4770k, 16Gb of Ram, 1000W PSU, Maximus 6 Formula.

If you want only SSD storage then go for it I guess.

Oh ok fair enough man. I myself would pick a 30" monitor I think you would really see the difference in 4k then, but that size can be so awkward for PC gaming :(

He actually likes smaller monitors. If he wants to play on a large screen he'll just hook it up to his TV.

He doesn't need these things, no, but he wants them. He likes the black color.

He doesn't need any more than 1tb of storage.

If he wants to over clock, which he will, the extra room is nice. There are only 2 higher end Seasonic's, 1050 and 1250 so I went for the higher one.

He wants all of the RAM slots filled.

Anyway, this is for someone who buys a computer once every 5 or 6 years and doesn't touch it much (upgrade wise). He also makes in excess of $12,000/month, so budget isn't really a concern.

Trust me. This build is half of what he was looking at spending through a prebuilt company.

Oh ok fair enough man. I myself would pick a 30" monitor I think you would really see the difference in 4k then, but that size can be so awkward for PC gaming :(

Especially in a small apartment where he already has 3 tv's of his own (80", 63", 42"), a gaming laptop, his old computer, not to mention all of his fiancee's stuff!

I honestly don't know where he'll find the space.

You can hange the color of the nzxt log to anything

He'll love that haha :)

Thanks! See, now what would I do without your suggestion.

Performance with 780Ti's is pretty lacking when it comes to fps. I'd like it to at least hit 60 at a steady rate.

He doesn't need 2tb of space. He doesn't play many games.

For the rest I'll refer you to my first reply :)

I agree though, in most cases I'd suggest the same build as you.

I have benchmarks that show between an 8 and 15 fps gain with them.

If it were higher up like 75 - 82 fps, yeah you're right I wouldn't care. But all of these are meaningful since they're below 60.

I have benchmarks that show between an 8 and 15 fps gain with them.

If it were higher up like 75 - 82 fps, yeah you're right I wouldn't care. But all of these are meaningful since they're below 60.

Strange, because I found benchmarks of Titans vs. 780Ti's at 4K, 780Ti yelled more FPS and the memory usage was below 3GB without AA and below 4GB with 4xAA (absolutely not needed as the resolution itself smooths everything out).

Here you go: http://www.digitalstormonline.com/unlocked/video-memory-usage-at-4k-uhd-resolutions-idnum146/

I plan to upgrade to 4K as well, and I think waiting for the GTX880 is by far the best option.

dem titan blacks do.  Yeah, pc looks pretty good, maybe don't need titan blacks, but aye, if you want go for em.

Beneath this mask there is more than flesh. Beneath this mask there is an idea, Mr. Creedy, and ideas are bulletproof.

Especially with my buddy (who this is for) he's a little on the blind side haha

But he wants 4k and won't be swayed from it so...

This monitor will actually be 2" bigger than the one he uses now, when he's not gaming on his TV.

He says the smaller screens make him better.

Anything on the desktop will be quite hard to see at that DPI. For example, a 96DPI screen may have a 0.42" high taskbar, and a 32" 4k screen may have a 0.28" taskbar (~140DPI). At 24" and that taskbar will be about 0.2" or just over 5mm high. (everything else scaled the same way)

Now, you can say that you can use the DPI scaling in windows, but that only really works with the the taskbar and other windows applications. Most other programs either magnify and blur, or just stay really small. I doubt that would help your friend's eyesight.

4k is still in it's infancy, and expecially with the limited options, insane hardware requirements, lack of software support for high DPI displays in windows and price of the screens (Although that 24" isn't too bad, but it's probably an alternative to a 30" 2560x1600 panel's price range) I don't think it's worth going for at this time. Especially since it's getting picked up so quickly, prices will go down very fast as more things start to manufacture, use and support it. (especially at high DPI rather than just a larger screen).

I guess if you are just playing games on this and not using the internet or anything else, then you could probably make use of the windows 8 metro interface for launching the games as that would scale properly.

You can change GPUs for King Pin if you want but I see no reason going overkill for 4k other than that. This should be more than enough for 4k gaming for the price at this day and age.

You can still save on HDD, SSD, GPU.. there are cheaper options with barely less performance. I included 4TB HDD because on 4k your videos will probably take up more space.. but it does not have to be WD Black.. on the SSD side I picked up 256GB if you want to throw something extra on it but you should be more than OK with 120GB. And GPU you can go for Gigabyte and save a lot of money right there. Also RAM does not have to be 2400MHz or 16GB. Then price would be under 4k $.

Oh, no you're totally right here. The 780Ti totally trumps the Titan. But I'm referring to the Titan Black, which is basically a 780Ti version of the Titan. It's much, much better than the Titan.

Here's some benches.

I agree, I'm trying to get him to wait for Maxwell. He's a bit of an impatient chap though.

780 ti king ping dude not titan

He won't overclock that much...and he definitely won't be running a custom water set up so the KingPin wouldn't even be used to it's full potential unfortunately.

They're a lot better than the competition at 4k. Hopefully I can convince him to wait until Maxwell, and see how it compares.

-snip-

I completely agree, but this computer will pretty much be used only for gaming. I doubt he'll even really use Windows. He does most of his browsing and such at work, or on his phone.

He also has a gaming laptop that he'll probably use if he finds the scaling isn't to his liking.

I don't think it's worth it either, I'm going 1440p with my next build.

He's an early adopter though. A very stubborn, early adopter. He won't settle for anything less.

He might go for a 28" or slightly larger screen if they come out with some quality IPS ones in the coming months. If it needs another Titan Black to give him the best quality he'll probably add it.

Hey, thanks for going to the trouble of making that!

He wants 6 core chip because it'll be probably 4 or 5 years before he upgrades again, and he wants it just in case. It's only an extra $300 so it's not too bad.

There aren't a huge number of 4k content options right now, so he probably won't be too concerned about that. He'll keep watching movies and such on his TV's since they have surround sound and such.

Good call though. If 4k really takes off it'll be needed. He's not much of a media junkie though.

The Titan Black combo in some games is a full 15fps higher than the 780Ti combo. Pretty significant.

I put in a large SSD as games tend to run a little quicker off them.

The RAM doesn't have to be, but he likes the higher number and wants all of the slots populated for looks. I'll probably set up a RAMDisk to make use of the extra.

I'd have gone with a similar build to what you made if I was going to build a 4k rig...except maybe a larger SSD. I don't even see the point though, tbh. I'm going 1440p.

But he wants the most performance he can get. :)
