What is the best 2TB SSD in terms of price to performance?

GamerBlake

Hey guys,

Im running out of space on my 1TB 860 EVO & 1TB 860 QVO so I wanted to upgrade my 1TB WD Blue HDD to a 2TB SSD. Which 2TB SSD offers the best bang for the buck? I see that the 2TB Corsair MX500 is like $50 cheaper than a 2TB 860 EVO but will I be giving up much in terms of performance if I go with the MX500? Or is there a better choice?

Thanks!

the mx500 and 860evo are basically the same performance, id get the cheaper drive.

Im assuming you want a sata drive? then mx500 is probably the best bet.

The way I see it (at least in US - you never specified your region), a entry tier 2tb nvme is around the same price as a mid tier ssd. So unless you really want an ssd (in which case just go the cheapest), you should consider an nvme.

Yeah I do. My motherboard comes with 3x NVMe slots but then someone told me if I use certain SATA slots it disables the NVMe slots so I have to stick with SATA as I don’t know which of my NVME slots are disabled. I do have a 1TB 970 Evo Plus NVMe as a boot drive but I don’t want anything on it except Windows and a few of my most demanding games. Like RDR2 & AC: Odyssey.

I do have a 1TB NVMe Samsung 970 EVO Plus as a boot drive. But I just recently found out that using some SATA ports disables some NVMe ports so even though my motherboard has 3 NVMe slots  I can only use 1 actual NVMe drive. The graphics card blocks the second NVMe slot.

Looking at your manual, if you use pcie nvme drives in m.2 1 and 3 it won't affect sata at all, so id just get a 660p if it was me.

Oh wow I didn’t know that! I thought if all SATA ports were in use it meant only 1 NVME (number 1) was still enabled.

Thanks! Maybe I should get one of the new Samsung ones?

I don't see a reason to go with the samsung 980pro if thats what your talking about. THere very expensive for what they are.

Id probaby get a cheaper drive like a 660p here if it was me, but there are lots of midrange drives like a sx8200 pro that will work well here aswell if you want a bit faster(probably won't notice the difference).

Is a 660p better than an MX500?

What port does it use then?

it uses a m.2 connector on the board.

But that would mean it takes up an NVMe slot! 😬

I was hoping to save that last NVMe slot for one last storage upgrade after this one.

Plus I would want to get NVMe speeds if I’m using the slot like my 970 Evo Plus does.

Id just get a big m.2 nvme drive for the 3rd slot, and use that.

Why do you need nvme speeds, id just get a midrange drive, and it will owrk fine fo ryour use.
