HP ProLiant DL320 G5

I recently got a HP ProLiant DL320 G5 server (Cisco MCS 7800) from a friend. I was thinking of using it as a storage server. There are no hard drives in it and has no bios. I wasn't sure if there was a curtain software to use or special hard drives to go in the slots. There weren't any hard drive brackets for the bays. Hoping on getting some assistance to get this thing working!

You might want to use unRAID. It costs money, but there are free alternatives. Usually there should be NO OS on the data drives. You'll have to buy a bracket for the hard drives, but I would just put a small SSD inside the case for the OS.

what do you mean by has no bios? It should boot into the bios iwth no drives.

 

Its not really a great storage server with 2 drives.

 

Those are also pretty old and slow and power hungry systems, so id really tru to get something newer if you can.

Thanks for correcting me. Yes, there is no OS. After looking at it some more, it looked like it did have some brackets. I did open it up and it doesn't look like there is any spot for internal storage.
