Win10 "Disable Web Search" GPO doesn't seem to work

So I've tried to disable the web search feature of Microsoft's default search to try and improve responsiveness by limiting it to fetching data locally, but it still seems to break and pull in web results despite the GPO being enabled. Does anyone else have this issue? I feel like it's possibly a multi-monitor thing, as I've noticed sometimes if I use the search to find something immediately after logging in, it will just be local results as they should be.

Update: After talking to someone in the LTT Discord who also ran into this issue, they also mentioned that all the affected systems they saw this issue show up on were also multi-monitor systems, which leads me to believe that that may indeed be where/why the issue is cropping up for some setups, but not others.

  • 1 month later...

I seem to remember @LinusTechcomplaining about this fairly recently in a video (WAN show or another stream possibly?). Any comments from LMG staff on the subject? I imagine you guys with your 10M subs would have a bit more weight behind your recommendation to Microsoft to fix their shit compared with a nobody like me.
