TV as PC Display?

cluelessgenius

so its the age old questions again.

so TVs already have : 4k, HDR, 120hz, better brightness and size

so since im not gaming competetively i thought wouldnt a TV be a better choice  since big Monitors cost almost the same anyway if not more.

any thought? maybe even specific recommendations for models?

"You know it'll clock down as soon as it hits 40°C, right?" - "Yeah ... but it doesnt hit 40°C ... ever  😄"

I sometimes use an older 4k tv as a monitor - mainly or stuff like flight simulator. The input lag is significantly higher - 0.1ms or so on my laptop's OLED screen, 3-6ms on IPS panels, but about 20ms on the TV.

I don't know how that's changed.

My thought to think about would be the reaction time. So the delay from when you move your mouse until you see the change on the display.
For PC monitors this delay is like 1 ms. But TVs are usually made to show movies where this delay doesn't matter too much.

If it has acceptable input lag for your application and you don't mind the size, I don't think it'd be an issue.

nope, unless you're sensitive to it

but you would probably have to sit a distance away to enjoy it no? i dont enjoy gaming with a monitor this big in front of me, eye and neck strain

edit: also, game mode might be a thing on your TV if it's 120hz, lowers latency and post processing

Modern TVs that offer high refresh rates etc all have low input lag as well.

I've been using TVs as monitors for close to 10 years now.

I have never liked playing on a TV. Then I watched a LTT video on the 2019 LG OLEDS with VRR and HDMI 2.1. I bought one since I needed a new TV anyway but set it up as a monitor. Now I have even replaced my 38" LG ultra wide with one.

I think it is the way to go.

yeah i already  did but sadly most of the better tv only come in a 55" version or the smaller version doesnt have 120hz native or something. finding good smaller tvs is quite hard

afaik, BFGD are around 40-42inch size

think LG had some 80 inch OLED panels with 120Hz and g-sync? -finds-

cost a liver though

Im still rocking a 1080p Plasma ..so ..yea.

if u go TV the biggest advantage is that u can choose an OLED, the smallest beign the LG CX 48".

Ofc i ur in a bright room u may want to go with a LCD, one with a high sustained brightness like one of the 1000nit QLEDs, but ull loose the Pixel response time (as ull be running VA) and those inky blacks that OLEDs produce.

I will post if it ever becomes an issue but I am 10 months in and no issues so far.

The TV also has lots of nannys to prevent it and there is also just using a screen saver.

I don't expect it to last as long as an LCD panel but If I get 3 years out of them I will be happy.
