Need help choosing a monitor

minemarcius

Hello,

I've been looking to adding a new monitor to my desk. This would be my main monitor. I'm not looking for high refresh rates as I play FPS only casually. My budget us about 200-250€ and GPU is GTX 1060.

I have been looking at few options like AOC Q3279VWF 31.5". Although I'm not sure whether 31 in display would be too big for me (I'm sitting about 20cm away from the monitor) and how would GTX 1060 perform on QHD resolution.

Do you guys have any suggestions?

Buy the cheapest 1080p IPS monitor you can find and no not 500000". The pixel density would make the screen blurry so keep it to normal sizes like 24". Since you're only using a 1060 you'll be fine with 60Hz but I recommend making sure it has Freesync at least. Those usually haev a minimum of 75Hz.

my 980 ti does fine at 1440p, hitting 90-144 fps max settings in a few games that are a little older (just cause 3, rise of the tomb raider, titanfall 2). 60-75 fps should be attainable for a 1060, though if you wanna play newer, very intensive AAA titles (AC:Odyssey, Sottr, Metro Exodus, etc.) you may need to fiddle with graphical settings to get stable framerates. 20cm viewing distance is a little close, you probably shouldnt go over 27 inches for screen size. there are a wide variety of 24-27 inch 1440p monitors in the 200-250 euro range, that can get you a 75hz ips freesync panel or a 144hz va freesync panel. if you dont mind a lack of adaptive sync you may be able to find prosumer/professional monitors that focus more on color accuracy if that matters to you, although something like an ultrasharp will likely be out of your price range.

LG 27GL650? I'll say stick with 27inch and smaller monitor, 31 inch is too big even for 1440p. Game looks fine but Youtube and other media consumption is a nightmare on the monitor that size.
