Hello all! I am lucky enough to be in a great position finanically post-grad and I am looking to switch from console to my first dekstop PC in November. Right now I have currently been revisting Bethesda's Fallout and Elder Scrolls titles on my college laptop (Razer Blade 14" (2016) - GTX970M) which I believe has served its time. RIP Battery.

I am currently budgeting for around a $2,500 - $3,000 for a rig and monitor. I am thinking I probably would like to go for a 1440p monitor and resolution goal. Heres a general spec list of what (I think) I want, but feel free to criticize my choices :)

  • 3000 Series Nvidia card, likely a 3080 which I could wait for in December if needed
  • Processor: All ears, I would love suggestions on AMD or Intel processors
  • 16GBs of RAM, Should I go with DDR4 3600?
  • Storage: High speed and storage SSD, any good suggestions?
  • 2560x1440p 144hz monitors, any good suggestions?

Given those specs, I could start working on motherboards, cases and coolers!

Thank you for your time.

Are you gonna only game on your PC, or will you be using other programs/workloads?

If you're only gonna play games, this should do the job very well. Even though 3000 series card prices have been released, you should wait a month or a few after the cards are released. Crypto miners are likely to buy 3000 series cards, lots of them, which can affect the prices and stock levels.
