So few days back i delidded my i5 8600k with a knife and chipped a corner of my cpu. Everything was fine for a few days. Last night i tried to install a game and oc restarted and was stuck on error screen. Now since then i whenever i start the pc.. nothing shows up on the display and pc keeps restarting continuously. I changed the psu.. the ram.  Even tried the processor on a different motherboard.. same issue.. what couod have gone wrong?

This is why spending $10 on a 3d-printed delidding tool on eBay is better than doing it with a knife and ruining a $250 CPU.

My guess is you nicked it with the knife but it miraculously didn't cause severe damage, but it compromised the structural integrity of the die which broke from the pressure of the heatsink.

What are those things that look like holes on the PCB?

oh so it died? (saw prev thread)

what OC did you do on it? volt and freq

4.4ghz voltage on auto.. i still am not sure if it is the cpu or something else.. it starts and turns off continuously.. tried different ram.. different mobo.. same.. if the cpu dies totally will the pc even start? Its starting but then stopping and again amd again.. i am confused as to which part has gone

huh, that's awfully low(?)

nope, wont even post if it's broken

if you have a compatible CPU, try using that

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

Its not posting..  by posting if u mean like showing something on the display then no.. its not.. the display shows no signal..  by starting i meant like fans are running gpu fans are running led lights r running and case fans are running.. but display shows nothing.. and this is how it starts and restarts again.. but display shows nothing... What do u think is gone?

-shrug- prob should get a new CPU to test

Right now putting the cpu in another motherboard..  i guess i am buying i7 9700k..  which is better for gaming i5 9600k or i7 9700k.. i mean off course the i7.. but i mean is the i7 9700k worth? Or should i just go for i5 9600k

mmm... i would say 9900k if the price is nice, the lack of thread really stings for some games.

or 8700k

you might need a bios update to use 9000 series cpu if your chipset is z370

No i have the z390 aorus pro.. i think m going for i7 9700k. .. 9900k is over my budget.. is the i7 9700k good enough?

Will the i7 9700k run for another 2 or 3 years?

if you dont break it yea

but make sure you can return it if it doesnt solve your problem

we dont know if it's the CPU at this point

Its not even coming up to the bios screen now.. just shows no signal..

it's probably the CPU if changing motherboard and trying single stick of ram in any slot does nothing

Depends. If you leave the Vcore on Auto, some boards will just shove more voltage into the CPU if you bump up the multiplier in an attempt to keep it stable.

4.4ghz sounds kind of low though, for a 8600K, so idk if the auto volt would be high enough to kill the chip

im suspecting pressure from heatsink caused the crack to propagate through the die and killed it

Shouldn't have delidded 😞 i guess if on this mobo it dosnt go at least upto bios.. then my cpu is gone

well, latest chips dont require delidding anymore since they're soldered, the last chips that arent soldered are the 8th gen intel i think

Yeah no, I'm not saying that it was the Auto voltage that killed it.

Yup, 9xxx chips are soldered. Not that they don't run hot, but still.

Ok so 9700k is soldered.. btw how much more performance does a 9900k have?

pretty much on par with 9900k in today's games
