Is the 980 ti a good gpu for 2020 ?

Skellter

So i want to buy a gpu. I have around 200$ and found an used EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti SC gaming ACX 2.0+ 6GB. If after i test it and it looks it's not damaged and things is it worth it for that price in 2020. Other options i have is a used 1060 6gb , GTX 970 etc.. Wanted to buy a RX 580 but it's not in stock , so my question is if it's still a good gpu for 2020 games. The second question i have is a 500W PSU enough for this card?

My specs:

CPU : i5-4460 , 3.2Ghz ,

RAM 16 gb of ram DDR3 Motherboard : Gigabyte Z97-d3h Power supply : Deepcool DA500W 80+ Bronze and some random 2 500gb hdd. Is 500W enough cause i heard it eats a lot of power.

$200 980 Ti is not really a good deal anymore. Get a 1070.

However $70 for a 980 Ti on EVGA's B-Stock store is quite good. I'd get that instead, if you can checkout before the bots.

The PSU may or may not work.

A used 1070 is like 300+ , the prices here are REALLY BAD. A new 1660 for example is like 360$. A new RX 580 is 250$ so the prices are very high compared to other countries. I could get a RX 580 4gb but i don't think it's worth getting the 4gb version

Country? Are 20xx series cards not going for dirt cheap? $300 USD (converting AUD to USD) are what 2070S are going for in Australia now. And they're not exactly bad cards. $200 for a 980 Ti is a pretty bad price.

Compare to 1060/970//580, definitely better. Good for 2020+ AAA games? Not so much i think, maybe on medium or lower settings.

500w Deepcool? That's a tough one but I usually suggest 600w/650w for this GPU.

Your i5 probably will bottleneck it in some games.

I am talking about USD. The country is Moldova , an RTX 2060 for example new in the shop is 452 USD. And the used ones are 350 so i think a 980 ti which is very close to a GTX 1070 for 200 usd WHEN the 1070 is 100 bucks more minimum it's ok.

I saw benchmark saying for 1080p it should get 60fps on high on most modern games , the thing is i am playing on a 1280x1024 so it should be even better. I will upgrade soon to a 1080p 144hz but i mostly play games like cs go or valorant.

you mean horrible the prices in my country or the deal i get compared to other cards. I can get the 1060 for the same price but i don't think it's worth it when i can get the 980 ti. I just bought the PSU so i don't think i will upgrade it. Thought 500 W should be enough for every singular card system and i don't overclock things.

I wouldn't pay that much at all for a 980ti but after seeing the country you may have no choice.  In 2020 it wont be a bad card for 1080p 60fps gaming however.  My Fury X (hair slower, less VRAM) easily beats that requirement.

I mean from what i've seen it's a pretty capable card and i don't play that many AAA games cause i get bored. I can play an Assassin's Creed or RDR2 and stuff but i think for 1080p i can easly play those at 60 fps even if i have to lower some settings. For me it matter that in fps games like cs go or valorant to have more than 144 fps stable so i can buy that 144hz monitor. It's better than a 1060 or an rx580 which are at the same price.

I still have a EVGA 980 ti SC and it did Witcher 3 at 1440p with hair works on with frames in the 60s.

I put it on my test bench today and got 81fps at 1080p with Shadow of the Tomb Raider on the highest preset.

I was using a 5ghz Intel CPU but SOTTR does not care much about clocks.

I still think it is a good 1080p 75hz GPU.

At 1080p 60hz I would buy the 980ti.  Simply because the card is 30+% faster, and 6gb of VRAM at that resolution will be fine for some time imho.  If you get to test the card first thats a plus

You must be absolutely crazy to spend 200 dollars on a five year old GPU. The used market is going to get very interesting over the next few months as people start upgrading to the 3000 series and older cards become cheaper. Do not spend that much money on a card that is basically obsolete in 2020.

Read his comment about the region he's in. He has no choice.

I'd pay for the used 980 Ti, but it really depends on your risk tolerance. Would you be willing to trade the extra performance for less security should things go awry? I personally would, but perhaps you won't.

The cheapest 980 ti I found on the local used market in quebec (canada) is 250$ ... the 1070 are usually going for 300+ $ (now with the 3000 series they dropped a bit but not that much) ... and I saw rx 580 ranged from 80$ to 250$ ... used prices are quite messed up here right now and it's going to get weirder I'm pretty sure of it ... saw a 780ti for 210$ ... :/

If you can't find better for cheaper then yeah you should probably go for it ... maybe try to get a lower price for that used 980ti ...
