Good afternoon folks,

I am currently using one pc to try and stream with obs and play cod warzone. The game seems to run fine, lower fps than I would like however not that big of an issue (if known remedies, please recommend). However when it comes to streaming, there seems to be a a skip lag sort of present in my stream. My processor is a i7-6700 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0136JONG8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_image?ie=UTF8&psc=1 this one to be exact and I have 16 gb of ram. When checking the stats, the only way I know how it shows that my cpu usage is at 100% my gpu is at 85 and my ram is at 72% fluctuating but not by much. Does this mean in order to not lag in stream I would need a better processor, or will an increase in ram fix my issues. Any other suggestions?

What graphics card? If it's a reasonably recent card you can stream with GPU encoding, which should alleviate some of the CPU load. The quality isn't perfect but it's good enough.

its a geforce gtx 1660 super. I downgraded my stream output to 720p at 30fps and it seems to be doing better. What is GPU encoding and will that make it worse or better than the 720?

Then you can use the newer Nvenc encoder, which is generally considered to be as good as most CPU encoding. It should be an option alongside x264-- it's a dedicated chip on the graphics card designed to encode video much more efficiently than a general purpose processor.

Any rec on cpu and motherboard upgrades? Possibly that ones that wont break the bank and still let me operate high settings in both stream and game?

Hi @SaiemH,

Did you check for virus's and miner software on your system? I'm using an i5-6600K and I have lower CPU usage than what your describing. Most of the bitcoin miner trojans tend to turn off when you go into your task manager, so you have to use an anti malware program like MalWareBytes.

So I just ran the basic windows security program that comes built in and it said that I dont have any virus, not entirely sure what miners are. I also opened up my game and obs and task manager to see what was using all this space and it said that 60-70 was warzone (the game itself) and obs was the remaining percentage. Does this mean anything? I though the gpu was supposed to do the heavy lifting for the game?

Bitcoin miners are software that use your CPU cycles to mine bitcoins. They are a form of malware. As a general rule, I have found MS Defender poor at detecting bitcoin miners.

However, based on what you saying, I'm going to assume that your system is only use the CPU cycles when your gaming. As far as the GPU vs CPU goes, it depends on the game. Fallout 4 runs mostly on my GPU, (Zotac RTX 2060), with about 50% CPU usage. However, Far Cry New Dawn draws about 50% on my GPU, but 85% on my CPU.

You could try overclocking your CPU, depending on the cooler that you have. As far as upgrading goes, I'm planning to jump over to AMD in November when the sales start. I'll have to replace my motherboard, but based on reviews, I can get a good AMD motherboard for around $100.00 USD. Another $150 for a CPU and I'm good. When it comes to performance per dollar these days, AMD is basically smoking Intel. So if you live with the performance that you have right now, you could start budgeting for a new board and CPU. Your current board takes DDR4, so you can just swap the memory to the new board. Then sell your old kit on something like eBay. Used i7 CPU's go for ridiculous prices on eBay, almost the same as new ones!

so when i first open task manager, the cpu usage is incredibly high and then it immediately drops to low percentage when no other programs are running, is this a sign of miners?

Yes, that would be a sign of some type of malware on your system, (not necessarily a bitcoin miner). If your having this type of problem, try running an app like MalWareBytes:

https://www.malwarebytes.com/mwb-download/

The free version has always worked for me for removing various malware that I have had on my system.
