Is this a normal FPS on Rainbow Six Siege for what I have?

I have a 2080 super and AMD Ryzen 3700x. I play with Vulcan on, 1440p and ultra settings. My framerate is lower than my refresh rate (165Hz) so this is why im asking. My framerate is around 150s while on some maps (I think presidential plane is an example) I can get dips into 130s but I think that's mostly when outside on that map.

don't play on ultra settings and you should be fine. 150ish on a 2080 seems right for ultra settings.

why? if you want the best FPS, turn your settings down a bit. It's normal, ultra is really not for competitive games.

even with those dips to 130s on certain maps? I imagine its the map not the hardware of my computer

Yup, if you want the best frame rate, turn it down to the lowest settings.

dude... yes.  I've got a 3900x and a 2080 and those numbers sound just about spot on.

varying textures, polygon counts, particle effects, edges for antialiasing to process, etc.  This concept isn't exclusive to R6S either.

1440p max settings 130fps to 150fps? That's the average FPS people get with similar setups. Try turning down your graphical settings if you want to match your refresh rate.

lots of factors from geometry to random variables like volumetric( since you are on ultra).

I have the render quality cranked higher than my resolution and tend to average around 110-120.  Sometimes dip into the 90s but it doesn't bother me.

Like most games that have different maps they have different levels of detail, polygon counts, etc. Not to mention how many optimization passes each map gets. They are all different so you may get less or more fps on different maps.

I play siege (and mostly all competitive games) with the bare minimum settings. There's less visual clutter while you're trying to spot enemies as well as having higher FPS as a bonus. There might be a few settings that I have on medium instead of low but you're playing to win, not look pretty.

 

SIngle player games or other games that aren't necessarily competitive like MMO's (while some people make them competitive) I crank up all the settings I can for more immersion.

Yes. For the graphical settings and resolution you are playing at with your specs, you are in the same average frame rates as others with similar setups. Like I said if you would like to get more FPS you will need to lower some settings, nothing major just shadows or something else that's not really noticeable if lowered. Watch a video or look for a guide that's recent for bumping your frames up while still keeping it visually pleasing.

ok tahnk you. I do notice on some maps when in certain areas I get 130s but im sure that's normal probably. ALso is it normal to get lower fps on a camera but only sometimes?
