Windows Licences on a Virtual Machine

Hi there,

 

If I register Windows on a VM using VMWare player and that VM goes bad one day, can I remake a new VM and register it with the same product code or MS think it's a new machine?

I think you should be fine, but to be honest I've never tried. Anyway since it's a VM you can backup the files and if someday your PC crash, you just need to copy the files back and open the VM in VMWare Player.

If you use a microsoft account then you can move the windows license anywhere.

 

Or just don't register windows and use it for free.

OEM licences are transferable?

Yeah they all are.

Just link it to a microsoft account and you can move it to different computers.

i don't know what you are using the VM for but you can grab a free copy of Windows here:

It's a release for Edge developers but it's open for everyone. The documentation even suggests to just take a snapshot of your VM install to get around the 90 day limit.
