What size PSU would be needed to run 2x 2080 Tis?

Does anyone know approximately what size PSUs are used in very high end rigs with multiple high end GPUs?

 

Is 850W enough or do those rigs need to 1,000W+?

CPU: i7 8700K (5.1 GHz OC). AIO: EVGA CLC 280 280mmGPUEVGA XC2 Ultra 2080Ti. PSU: Corsair RM850x 850W 80+ Gold Fully Modular. MB: MSI MEG Z390 ACE. RAM: 32GB Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB (3600 MHz OC). STORAGE: 1TB Samsung 970 Evo Plus M.2 NVMe, 2TB Samsung 860 EVO, 1TB Samsung 860 Evo, 1TB Samsung 860 QVO, 2TB Firecuda 7200rpm SSHD, 1TB WD Blue. CASE: NZXT H510 Elite. Are you doing just gaming? because it wouldn't be worth it at all. Just wait for the 3080ti

 

1000W with decent reviews just to have plenty of overhead, you could get away with 850W if you find one cheap.

 

also PSUs have crazy pricing right now in the US.

I’m not doing it myself I’m just curious. I have 1x 2080 Ti and that’s enough for me but I was wondering if, hypothetically, my 850W Corsair RM850x had the power to handle another GPU.

How many power connectors will those cards require?

PC Part Picker has that criterium as a filter in their PSU chooser...

You can't just base it off whether or not the PSU has enough connectors. The CX600 has four PCIe connectors, but you should not use it to power two R9 295X2s.

Neither is there any point recommending a PSU that doesn't have enough connectors...

That lists 1000W+ units that are supplied with four or more 6+2pin PCIe connectors; the two cards are quoted as needing 500W minimum by themselves, but add in the rest of your rig for a better idea of actual power draw required.

Six 6+2 connectors, according to the "cables supplied" graphic on the Amazon page. :)

So when you say “supply 2 connectors each”, does that mean it will run 2 GPUs? 🤔

It comes with three leads that supply power to graphics cards, each has two 6+2pin connectors on each.

However many connectors your existing 2080ti has, you'll need as many of the leads supplied for twice the number of cards (if you get a second identical card).

Depends on whether OC is in consideration, but I would err on the side of 1000 watts.
