USB 2.0 freezing the pc

Oren Dekel

It's not necessarily a windows problem, but I didn't know where to ask. When I plug USB 2.0 storge device (not keyboard and mouse) my pc freezing. I mean the apps not responding. But when I unplug the USB it suddenly getting back to normal. The problem only happens with USB 2.0, not with USB 3.0. Also I plugging the USB 2.0 to 3.0 port because I don't have USB 2.0 port.

Can someone please help me?

Sounds like a short to me. Have you opened up the PC to check the connection to that port and blast it with compressed air to clear any possible debris? Do the same to the port that's causing issues.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

Are these ports you're testing on the rear of the motherboard or the front panel?

The ports are in the front panel

Something is probably shorting to ground then. If the rear USB work fine then that'll support my theory.
