6+8 pin connecter or both?

Okay so I’m back again with my dumbass knowledge about pcs sorry btw

 

i have a gtx 970 100 ME and it had a 8 pin and a 6 pin connecter I have a photo here and do I need a 6 and an 8 pin connecter or just a 6 pin by itself or an 8 pin by itself bc I’m really confused lol

On graphics cards you almost always need to plug in all the power connectors, and that's the case here too.

Plugging both would be the ideal thing to do.

Correct me if I’m wrong because your question is very confusing but, if you are asking if you need a cable that has a 6 + 8 cable on one end or two separate cables that each connect to the power supply, the answer is simple. Both solutions work you just need to plug in a 8 and a 6 pin it will not matter if it’s separate or one cable turning into two. As long as it’s a pcie cable.

do I just need a 6 pin cable to with no 8 pin

or do I need a 8 pin cable with no 6 pin

or do I need to plug in both

Both, some gpus won’t even boot without both connected for safety purposes. But you need both

As others have said, you need both. The PCIe bus can provide up to 75 watt, the 6 pin also 75 watt and the 8 pin can do 150 watt. (In practice a good PSU can do more, but that's what the spec says). So this means the card is allowed to draw up to 300 watt, giving you some overclocking headroom.
