AMD Ryzen 5 opinions? Please help a noob

Hi, I’m a first time builder and am looking for a cpu. I’ve done some research, and have come to 3 options- the AMD Ryzen 5 1600, the 1600 AF, and the 2600. My budget is a maximum of 200-210 Canadian dollars for my processor. I’m probably going to run it with an NVIDIA GeForce 1660 Super. Could you help me out, and give me some of your hot takes on each of the processors? I was initially going for the AF, as it had he same performance as the 2600, but apparently the price has gone up, and they cost the same now. As of this moment, I’m looking at the 2600, but the 1600’s low price is quite compelling, as I can put that into a good mobo or an m.2 drive instead of a basic ssd. My total budget for the PC is somewhere between 700 and 750 Canadian dollars.

the 1600AF or 2600 are the 1 on the list you should get.

for that budget I'd get a 3100x or 3300x

As a fellow Canadian, I can understand the pain of trying to find important parts for low prices. I’m not all that familiar with the Ryzen 5 lineup’s performance, but if the 1600AF’s price is still lower than that of the 2600, I would go for it.

Yeah, the new R3 CPUs are pretty good and bang-for-the-buck. I would recommend as well.

Thanks for the feedback, but I’m sticking with the 5 for future proofing. If you can throw a rig together that’s great. I’m looking for maybe 8 gigs of ram, with a 500 watt psu. I don’t really know about storage just yet

No, I do not. But I have decided that’s the one I’m using, as it’s dirt cheap where I live. Only 210$ Canadian!

OP, please spend a little extra on your mobo if you can. Having a B series chipset improves upgradability, expansion, and resale value later. In fact I would prefer to get less RAM today if it meant I could get a better board. RAM is a hell of a lit easier to upgrade than a mobo.

Oh yeah, absolutely. I do a lot more than game, as I plan to get into engineering once I get to college. 8 gigs of ram is my goal right now. Thanks for the input!

I just looked at some CPU Benchmark, and yeah. I’m not gonna be clocking that much, and it’s out of my price range.
