Ryzen 5 3600 RAM Pairings, OPINIONS WANTED

TLDR: What RAM should I buy? (speed and latency) (16GB kit) (Ryzen 5 3600)

 

My Build: (Gaming)

  • Ryzen 5 3600
  • RTX 2060 or better (depending on final budget)
  • 16 GB of RAM tbd..
  • Mobo undecided
  • probably an m.2 drive

Budget: $1250/ £1000

 

I would like the best bang for my budget. I don't know if I should go for higher speeds and longer latencies or lower speed and shorter latenices.

So far I have considered 3200 and 3600 mhz kits, at all types of latencies but don't let my previous thoughts cloud your judgment.

cheapest 2x8gb 3200-3600 Cl16 kit should do fine.

I'd get a 5700/5700XT

3200 cl16, 3600 cl18, decent options

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

 

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

 

How many watts do I need? ATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explained, group reg is bad

because 3600 Cl16 is pricey

doesn't matter C16 3200 is the same speed as Cl18 3600 so get whatever cheaper

they have the same latency so the 3600 would be better performance, but not by much, so maybe saving money with the 3200 is worth it to you. My roommate does 144Hz with his Ryzen 5 2600 and 3000MHz ram so you can still get good performance on the conservative speeds.

Because it’s a Ryzen chip, I’d go with 2666mHz RAM or faster. CL16 or lower is also pretty good.

JayzTwoCents did a video about RAM speed on Matisse recently. I don't believe there was much of a difference between 3000 MHz and anything higher. So the aforementioned 3200 MHz C16 is fine. Most of those modules will be compatible as well.
