When we play overwatch his loading screen (goes pee, gets a soda and makes toast with Nutella) and still takes about another 3-5 mins but no lags once the match starts, what do you think should we wait?

A cheap NonK 3770 comes to mind as a drop in upgrade..

For the Gaming and Productivity boosts..

It wont match a Ryzen but will give a nice bump to performance and tasking.

What GPU is it currently running?

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

You could throw in an i7-2600/3770, but if you've got the money for a full platform upgrade then that'd probably be the better choice, in the long run especially.

$180 gets you a lot of CPU nowadays, the 3600 would be a very solid choice. Pair it with a 3600MHz CL16 dual-channel kit of memory and the TUF B550M-Plus board you mentioned should work nicely, it's quite a decent board, though I'd maybe also look for pricing on MSI's B550M Mortar too - if that's at a similar price to the TUF I'd probably go for that instead.
