SSD will not show up in boot options, but works fine in boot override

Alexcalibur

System is a 6800k paired with an Asus X99 Sabertooth motherboard. When booting it auto sends to the BIOS, and two out of three drives do not show up in the boot menu. However, when I go to the boot override, it shows up just fine and boots no problem. What do I need to do?

Note this is my father's computer, not my own. He says that sometimes it crashes with it saying something along the lines of overclocking?? I Don't have this overclocked to the slightest.

SOLVED: Unplugged the two harddrives, let it boot with just the SSD. Shut it down, plugged the other two in, bingo bango bongo it works.

Is the SSD in question brand new/unformatted/uninitialised...?

It has the OS on it... d'oh.

How many of each type of drive interface are in use?

Some m.2 drives will cause S-ATA connector to be disabled...

I frequently edit any posts you may quote; please check for anything I 'may' have added.

Did you test boot it, before you built in into the case?

WHY NOT...?!

Currently 4 SATA ports are being used, one of them being for front panel ESATA. 2 are HDDS in position 8/9, and the other is the SSD in position 1. No M.2 drives. GTX 960 in PCIe 16x

... for sanity check.

Pull all but the OS disk & see if that boots... then add them back, with the e-SATA last.

Populate from S-ATA 0, first if possible...

I don't have anything running in any kind of raid configuration, so I don't believe so. I am using the computer to ask this, so I will try that and report back lol. I got the drive to show up in the boot priority, but for whatever reason it send me to the BIOS and has me select it in the boot menu. Will post pictures.

I unplugged the other two hard drives and it booted up no problem to the OS. I am going to plug them back in and see what happens. I can't put the SSD in position 0 atm, as I only have 90 degree SATA cables and it needs a straight one to fit in lol.

@Eighjan So it works fine now after plugging the two other drives in. Thanks for the help. I am going to put the side panels on and try it again once its all put togehter. Odds are something else will break, but let's have our fingers crossed. Thanks again for the help!

FYI - if you still have the manual, chapter 3.8 Boot Menu should help you nail down a permanent solution; if you need a link - https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/LGA2011/SABERTOOTH-X99/E10096_SABERTOOTH_X99_for_web_only.pdf
