Unable to overclock 3700x FCLK to 1900mhz

Go to solution Solved by Jurrunio,

Only the top bin Zen 2 CPUs can do 1900 or 1933, modt reside in the 1800 to 1866 range tho there are reports of some exceptionally bad ones topping 1733

Tried with max safe voltage 1.2v... is there any other voltage I can adjust to make it works? How many 3700x are actually able to hit 1900 mhz fclk? Am I unlucky or just "normal"?

edit: want to mention that my cpu is 2019 week 44 batch, which is consider as bad bin in some forums聽馃檭 ( but I bought it in May 2020 smh)

Does it boot with 1800聽or 1850?

I frequently edit any posts you may quote; please check for anything I 'may' have added.

Did you test boot it, before you built in into the case?

WHY NOT...?!

1800 works fine, havent try 1850, spent 2 hours on this 1900 mhz trial and now its 4 am..

Ouch...

Base clock on a 3700X is 3.6, so venturing too far from 1800 will get you into territory that @Jurrunio outlined.

somehow I miss this reply. I feel better now since I am in the "normal" category. will turning off pbo or my voltage offset helps tho?

Very rarely聽

Unless you got a golden sample anything over 1800 is a really difficult task聽

pbo will only help you, since it boosts as many cores at possible as high as possible. If you turn it off, you might be able to run a locked all聽core boost a bit higher, but you won't be able to reach those high single core frequencies that pbo achieves. Gamers Nexus made a whole video about it a while ago.. It's not worth turning off. It's there to help and it works well enough.

as for the fclk - 1800 is the sweet spot, I think. That's already a 3600mhz ram to achieve 1:1 ratio. If you get a CL16/14 kit at that speed and it works with the CPU, you're golden. It's rare that a CPU of this bin (yes, 3700x is low bin) could achieve a 1900fclk. If you can get it to run at 1866 with RAM at 3733 or sth, you'd get what.. 2% better performance.. but I don't think it's worth it.

Within reasonable SOC voltage, I dont find any tuning help pish boundaries of FCLK

In fact when LN2 is used (so transistors work better), FCLK is further reduced to say 1467 so it will even turn on.

Update guys, now I am running 3733 ram with 1866 fclk @ 1.38v dram and 1.1 vsoc respectively. Now the latency reduced from 67 ns to 65.7.聽馃榾

klevv ram is a beast, bought it for less than 100 usd.

Update: Bought a b-die stick from some chinese brand inno3d, easily overclocked to 3600mhz cl16 with much tighter timing. Now latency is 65.2 according to aida64,will try to tweak and update later.
