The wifi at my house has speeds ranging from 200 mps to 560 mps but whenever i use eithenet the fastest ill get is 20mps. Why is that and how can i make it faster? And to make things worse whenever i download something on steam it takes all the speed i have and uses it all.

Okay, lets start with the basics. How many devices are connected to the router, and how are they connected?

Running speed test while other gadgets are actively downloading/uploading is going to negatively affect your results. So ensure that’s not happening.

If your network is “quiet” and you still get the slow speeds, we still need to know what you should be getting. What speeds do you pay for from your ISP?

Also, have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the latest network adapter drivers?

And what are the makes/models of all your network components and the type of cable connecting them together? Have you tried a different ethernet cable between the PC and the modem/router?

Yes, this is how downloads work unless you want to limit its maximum speed

What are the devices youre trying to connect?

Are you testing the results the same? use speedtest.net or fast.com

Also dont get megabits and megabytes confused, if youre basing wifi devices off of a speedtest.net which displays megabits and then ethernet on megabytes from a steam download it will be different as megabits = megabytes * 8
