Just a PSA here, but be careful if you have to mess with some junk powersupply.

I was looking around in a computer a buddy brought over, touched the side of the powersupply (YES, it was unplugged from the wall and had been for several days), and boom. My hand jumps back and I lose feeling in my ring finger for a few minutes.

Needless to say, not the most pleasant of experiences. I nearly threw the computer through the wall but I was afraid of getting shocked again lmfao!

The large capacitors found in computer power supplies can hold dangerously high voltage for a long time, although most modern PSUs have charge draining circuitry that helps the longevity of the capacitors by draining the charge in an hour or so after being unplugged from the wall. Always make sure to hold down the power button for a few seconds to drain any stored charges in the motherboard and/or PSU before tinkering with the hardware of a system, never open a PSU for any reason unless you are an electrician and are aware of the risks associated. I try keeping my hands away from the PSU when working on a computer (unless I have to remove/install it specifically), although if you accidentally touch the side of it while it is still fully enclosed then you shouldn't get shocked unless the PSU had bad repairs done to it previously and/or is malfunctioning.

Hope this information post was helpful  ?,
