been using 'file explorer' getting sick of it need better

absolutely
- needs ctrl t to open new tab like in chrome and other things
- a basic usable 'file explorer' needs to have this basic thing
- needs to show what file type it is right in the 'file name'

i think that's it for now
other than that a clean minimalist ui preferred

oh,
absolutely
- needs to remember what page you last closed on and open that
- like many other things does

greatly prefer, not needed: 1 click to open things like the web, not double click

other basic things other apps software does preferred in case they come up in future

Microsoft tried this with a Redstone build a while back and not a lot of people used it. They ended up cancelling the project. You can try a program like TidyTabs to get the functionality.

There's a setting you can change to show the file extension at the end of the file name.

You can right click to open the selected thing in a new window

You can do that by enabling file name extensions in the view tab.

What other file system explorers do this? I can see this being really annoying to be honest. I like the fact that opening file explorer opens to quick access which (and you may find this hard to believe) gives quick access to all drives, any folders I access often, and any I choose to put there manually.

Not sure if there's better stuff out there nowadays but ever since Windows 2000, I think, I've been using Total commander and it serverd me very well but I've recently made the switch to file explorer to check it out and overall, file explorer has some missing functionality but it looks more modern and it gets the job done so I'm sticking with it for now.

... 5 from the bottom - uncheck if needs be.

I frequently edit any posts you may quote; please check for anything I 'may' have added.

Did you test boot it, before you built in into the case?

WHY NOT...?!

I cannot recommend this enough:

http://onecommander.com

Other than that, +1 for the Total Commander (or the Double Commander which is a free clone of it).
