Dsl and fiber home internet connection

Hi there, just gonna ask a quick question here.

 

What is the difference of dsl and fiber home internet connection?

 

Considering the internet plan speed is 10mbps(yes, that's painfully slow compared to the 1st world country folks average internet speeds)

 

I know the pros and cons of dsl and fiber. Just curious on what's the difference(how they feel) when they're both the same speed

DSL is going to in most cases have higher latency compared to fiber.

At 10Mb/s honestly there won't be a noticeable difference. Fiber would have better latency but it's going to be 7ms compared to 32ms which at 10Mb/s is not something I would be worrying about

Depending on your location and age of the copper in the ground then you might notice drastically lower speeds. Distance from the DSLAM (aggregation point for the ISP) and other things also impact DSL which don't apply to fiber. Fiber has a better chance to offer you the speeds compared to aging DSL lines but if both are in good condition then they should, aside some latency differences, perform about the same.

Considering its half a kilometer from my location i don't think that would be a problem. And i think i can live with the latency thing(I'm not a professional gamer  that needs the lowest ping as possible)

Fiber is going to probably be newer with newer hardware but if they cost the same just go with fiber. They both are exponentially better than cable in terms of reliability and consistency in speeds.

Nope. Copper is at risk of electromagnetic interference, fiber isn't.

 

You'll have a lot more chances of an unstable copper connection VS a fiber connection.

 

Having your telephone (DSL) connection terminated beside your fuse / breaker box or electricity meter (as it's usually done) will affect your connection a lot more than having your fiber connection terminated at the same place.
