Will RTX 2060 Super be Bottlenecked?

Hi guys,.

So I have an i5 4690K that is Overclocked to 4.7 GHz, 8 GB Ram, and a GTX 970 SSC with a slight manual overclock which has served me very well for 5 years.

I'm thinking of doing a big upgrade of my motherboard, CPU, RAM, and GPU.

If I bought a RTX 2060 Super first weould this be Bottlenecked much by my i5 4690K, considering I play at 1080p 60Hz on a 27" Curved Monitor at the moment.

My options.

1. Uprade my MB, CPU, RAM first and stick with GTX 970 SSC for a few months while I save for 2060.

2. Buy 2060 Super first and upgrade the rest later.

I'm currently playing GTA V Online, but do play Destiny 2, Forza Horizon 4, and just getting into Warzone.

Any suggestions/help greatly appreciated

Thanks

Gary

Well you won't be getting 100% out of it, but you should be alright for 1080p 60Hz in those games. It'll be a big improvement regardless.

That being said, it might not be the best time to upgrade your graphics card now, considering Nvidia's Ampere and AMD's RDNA2 are coming in early Fall. If you wait until then, you're very likely to get a lot more for your money.

if you own 1080p60hz, and dont plan on buying new 144hz monitor, you dont need upgrade at all, gtx 970 is capable of 60+ fps in any game, and ur monitor is 60hz, whic means even if u have 200fps, u will only get 60 refreshes on monitor, so no benefit, but if you buy 1080p144hz monitor, then rtx 2060 is perfect for that, for 1440p144hz rtx 2070+

btw i recommend HIGHLY to EVERYONE to stick to 24 inch monitors, 1080p144hz 24 inch is all you need, 27inch is too big even for RPG games, and playing games like PUBG/APEX/COD is much better on 1080p144hz 24 inch monitor, what you could do is  sell your complete PC with monitor, try get as much as possible, and build ryzen 3300x and rtx 2060 build with 1080p144hz monitor

Thanks for all your replies so far..

Yeah originally I was going to upgrade my RAM to 16 GB, but wondered if it was going to be a waste if I was going to need to replace the MB, CPU, RAM in the near future.

I plan on doing this upgrade early next year, maybe end of 2020.

I want to replace my Corsair 200R case too, to maybe a NZXT H510 or silimar.

It's good to hear my GTX 970 SSC should be good for a little longer.

I do plan on upgrading my monitor too to maybe 1440p 144Hz but that won't be for a while yet as my 1080p 27" is fairly new.

Anyone else think I should go for 16 GB RAM upgrade first, as I may do that along with the case first followed by GPU then the big parts later once the next generation of CPUs and GPUs arrive.

I was thinking of more Ryzen 5 3600 or 3700X, and I'll think about dropping to 24" when I upgrade to 1080/1440p 144Hz, although I don't use the monitor for just gaming, so the extra screen space comes in handy for work.

2060 Super and 4690K will be fine. I'd go for 16gb of ram though. If you're gonna upgrade the rest it's probably just better to go for a new build

Thanks for the help! Nice to know my PC can still cope with a newer gen GPU.
