What graphics card do I need to run a 240hz 1080p monitor

5700 is at the very least comparable to PS5 is rumors are to be believed so I doubt you will have to worry about it being obsolete fast?

Hardware encoding would relieve pressure from CPU, helping to get higher frame rates.

Could get a cheaper CPU, and still have great performance while streaming.

Would use less power, cheaper energy bill, cooler room in the summer.

and then you will limit your self to an nvidea gpu 

he has an x570 board 

so OP will probably go with something like a 3600 or above (assuming they want to be at least somewhat multi threaded ) which has a really good ipc count and will do great in h264 encoding

A 3600 gaming and encoding performs worse than a 3600 just gaming.

 

5600 XT, and 1660 TI perform about the same and cost about the same.

Well here are my final thoughts on this:

 

You have 3 options near the bottom/middle of your budget:

 

GTX 1660 Super for $230 and use NVENC for streaming. You'll get better FPS in CPU bound scenarios (ie gaming 200+ fps while streaming), but you'll have to turn down the graphics a bit and you won't get as high frame rate in GPU bound games. Performance is worse when not streaming vs the other options. This is the best choice if you need to save a buck.

 

RX 5600 XT for $280 and use x264 for streaming. You'll have lower FPS while streaming and gaming due to CPU encoding, but you can turn up the graphics and get better frame rate in GPU bound games. Performance is better when not streaming vs the other options. In my opinion, this would be the obvious choice if you weren't streaming.

 

RTX 2060 for $300 and use NVENC for streaming. You'll get performance on par with the RX 5600 XT with the benefits of hardware encoding too, but for an extra $20. In my opinion, this seems like the best option for someone who wants to get the highest FPS possible while also streaming on a budget.
