What's with the ads???

So I've been seeing quite a few ads for Asian dating sites, could someone care to explain why??? Also I don't like it how there will be more ads on the forum, really liked how there was only one at the bottom .

the creators of those ads pay extra for google to bump them to the top of the ad delivery algorithm. That way if you have a fresh install or aren't blocking then their ads get to you first.

The ads depend A LOT on what you've been searching for lately... I see lots of cell phone contract ads because that's what I've been looking at...

Also I really don't think that the ads are a problem as long as they are not intruding / pop ups etc... But just turn on adblock if you don't like it, I think I remember Linus saying to do that if you don't like them

really? I have a brand new install, fully formatted harddrive and the only program I have used is FF to visit LTT, so the only thing google knows about me is that I am visiting the LTT forums because I haven't even used google yet.

it's not bad, just a small banner at the bottom and a few squares on the right hand side, no overlays or slide in's.

I think they were just curious as to why the sudden influx of asian wife ads,  they seem to have come out of nowhere.  It doesn't seem to be based on what sites you visit.

I don't think that's always the case, as I and others have said there has been an influx of ads that have absolutely nothing to do with browsing history and personal interest.  I for example have a lap top with a completely clean install and LTT is the only website that pc has visited, yet the ads that get served are the same ads that others are noticing, which suggests those ads are not served based on browser history or anything like that but are paid to get some sort of priority.

Aaaaaaand, may I suggest Ad Block Plus if you're annoyed by ads? ^^ I know ppl gonna QQ for suggesting it, but I just can't have my web browsing experience spoiled by blinky annoying shit. Or ads on youtube. Or twitch. Or anywhere really [main reason I don't watch TV] ^^

And clicking on PCPartpicker and the likes on LTT will target ads towards you, and the HP ads seem to fit the profile.

I was going to say something, but it seems for every person to whom I point out what the problem actually is, another 2 come along with the copy and paste replies completely ignoring the reason the thread was started.

 

 

For the last time: on my work computer I only view banking, LTT, computer shops and occasionally a government website and my lappy has a fresh install and has only visited LTT, nothing else, but on both I am getting the same dating site ads, so it can't have anything to do with the sites I visit.
