2070 Super vs 2080

I've saved my pennies and gotten spousal approval. I'm upgrading my GTX 1080. But I want opinions on which to upgrade to.

 

RTX 2070 Super or 2080?

 

Performance wise I know from GPU benchmark that they're similar. But which is the most capable and which will last me the longest getting high, stable FPS? I'd like a fan that can stay relatively cool with its own fan cooler (no open water cooling loop, just AIO in this PC). Which is better value for money?


TLDR; Does anyone have any particular models they recommend and like? (2070 Super vs 2080)

 

The rest of the build is:

2700X (AIO cooled), X370-F mobo, 16gb 3200mhz corsair vengence, CoolerMaster M500 case.

SETUP:

  • Ryzen 9 3900XT @ 4.3 all core (peak core voltage 1.3)  (water)
  • 2x8GB TeamGroup 8Pack Ripped Edition 3600mhz CL14
  • RTX 2080ti OCd @ +150 core, +1000 memory (water)
  • Aorus B550 Elite (rev1)

  • Cinebench R15: 1785  1883 (Aug 2020)
  • Cinebench R20: 4136  4243 7125 7550 (Feb 2021)
  • 3DMark/Time Spy: 10,238 13,106 13,993 14,149 15,295 (Feb 2021)

The 2080 has more cuda cores, in terms of performance there is literally no advantage that the 2070 super has.

 

But when it comes to upgrading in the future, these cards will very likely become obsolete at the same time.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

I wouldn't upgrade right now. Wait for the 3000 series and grab a 3070.

Honestly for the time being neither 

The 1080 is still fine for even 1440p gaming and waiting for the new ampere gpus will be  financially smarter

@EmpC I'd rather stay with 1080 for longer, we're getting next gen late this year so a 2080 today wont play well that long. It's generally a good idea to skip a generation if you're going for cards in the same position in their product stack (so xx80 to another xx80) anyway

I already have a buyer lined up for the 1080 so the upgrade would only be a net loss of about 150-200, which is why I was considering it. I think I'll wait for the 3000 series and get something to the higher end of that with the extra savings.
